{1974}

You watched as Michael danced around his living room. He hummed a little song to himself as you sat there on the couch, simply entranced. You admired how he could easily get up and just move so fluidly. How his legs glided across the floor while his body followed along in sync. In your mind, you could only imagine dancing as great as him.

Even though you had talent as well, you never took notice of it.

"I wish I could be like you Mike," you said quietly.

He put down the magazine he had quickly flipped through the pages of. "What do you mean?" He questioned. "Like...like how you dance like that. So effortlessly," you said with awe in your voice.

He gave you a shy smile and took a seat next to you.

"I'm not even all that.." He laughs.

"What?? Yes you are! You're so amazing Mike. You are literally the definition of perfection I-"

You went quiet. You wanted to say so much more and tell him continuously how incredible he was, but you brushed it off, not wanting to make it a big deal. But then you perked back up as you had gotten an idea.

"Teach me how to dance like you," you said with big eyes and a goofy smile. Michael returned the enthusiasm.

"Well, let's get started then!" He beams.

Michael takes you by the hand and lifts you off the couch. The sudden contact makes you blush a little. He then does a little move.

But you stop mid-way through the dance and sigh in annoyance. "What am I even doing. I know I can't dance," you groan.

"Noo that was perfect!" Michael tells you.

You look up at him with curious eyes.

"I'm serious Y/N."

Feeling defeated and embarrassed, you go back to the couch. This made Michael frown. And he desperately tried to think of something that would make you feel better.

I got it! He thought to himself.

You immediately perk up at the sound of him singing "The Love You Save." Arguably one of your favorite songs by the Jackson 5, but you have a lot of favorites.

You giggle and can't help but join along.

"When we played tag in grade school, you wanted to be it.." you mutter.

Michael smiles and continues the song a little louder, to get you to come out of your shell.

"But chasing boys was just a fad, you crossed your heart you'd quit!" He belts smoothly.

You laugh and quickly chime in with the next lines.

"When we grew up you traded, your promise for my ring, now just like back to grade school you're doing the same old thing!"

You got so wrapped up in the song that you didn't even gain consciousness that you were now dancing and groovin' away with Mike.

Laughter and happiness filled the room, placing joy and satisfaction in both of your hearts.

The way it should always be..
