~Calum
Breathless I am. I'd never think I'd ever be going out on a date with Luke Hemmings.
"Let's go down stairs and use the landline" I say as I stand up. He nods and follows. Once were down stairs I pick up the bright red phone and hand it to him. His eyes grow large.
"Woah"
"I know" I smile. "Hey mum you don't mind if Luke and I go out and eat tonight?"
"Of course you can. I just wanna talk to you for a moment." She smiles and points to the kitchen. I tell Luke I'll be back in a second and we head into the other room.
"Yeah?"
"What was wrong last night?" She asks softly. Blunt..but so calmy as to not trigger anything.
"This isn't a conversation we can have now mummy. I'm sorry. Later okay?" Emotion wells up.
"Luke seems like a very nice boy. You two a thing?" She grins, obviously changing the subject for me, and wanting a piece of the action. I feel my face heat up and I clear my throat.
"Were gonna go..out to eat.." I trail off, thinking about his lips as he told me he loved me. She squeaks quite womanly and take my hands in hers.
"You do know that all I want is your happiness. Right? I know we went over your sexuality and who you are and..but I still feel. I still have a part of me that believes you're still shy of your amazing self"
"Mummmm of course I knowwww. But. I don't. I don't know if I'll ever be able to be fully comfortable with not being normal" the grip on my hands from hers tightens and she shakes her head.
"Who said you weren't normal?!" Her eyebrows furrow.
"No on no one mum! I.. I just don't feel normal"
"Oh Huny, you must believe in your self before you can believe life," she always does this to me. A random saying of words pop into her head and she says them. Of course it doesn't make sense. Just pieces.
"Okay," I half smile.
I walk up behind Luke and place my hand on his lower back. He turns around quick and his cheeks are pink.
"Oh I didn't mean to scare you," I hold back a small laugh. He smiles and tells me its okay before the depressing news comes.
"She said no.." My heart drops. But its quickly lifted. " I mean, maybe in like a half an hour. We just have to go to my house for a moment. My mother is paranoid.. And she doesn't know about my sexuality, so..please-" I cup his cheeks in my hands.
"You don't need to explain Luke. I totally understand." I take my bottom lip between my teeth. He directly looks into my eyes. I start to think too much about them. What a pretty blue they are. When the kitchen light reflects down on them, his eyes shimmer bright. Gaahhh.
"W-we should go," he slightly smiles, but it's a nervous smile. It's adorable.
"Mum can I take Red?" I move my hands and yell for my mother in the next room.
"Of course! Behave yourself boys, no running stop signs!" She yells back. I grab the Ford key off of the key rack and take Luke's hand. I swing open the door and step back, waiting for him to go first. He smirks and looks down.
"You're cute.." With that he steps out onto the dimly lit porch. I close the door behind me and head over to the passenger side of the red car and open the left door for him. He slides in and I close the door. I get into the car and put the key in the igniton.
"Can you drive?" I ask, making small talk.
"Hitting the cones is part of the driving test right?" He smiles. I nod.
"That's beautiful," I laugh. "Where to?" I ask.
"Take a left from here then go down Washington, its kind of way down, but once you're there its the large white house with a green jeep in the drive" he explains. I take his words in like oxygen.
"Lovely darling," I open the compartment above his seat and pick out a Blink-182 CD. It's my sistersx but I always borrow it. I slide it in and turn the volume up.
"I love Blink.." He turns to me. I nod.
"Great band eh? Their music inspires me..I play more than the cello" I say with less ease than I wanted.
"Really? I can play accoustic, electric, piano, French Horn, and the bongos" he giggles at his last remark and I make some kind of laughing noise.
"That's so cool I wish I could play some kind of percussion. I play bass..cello..piano..maybe more I have no idea" I pull the car in drive and he slips his seat belt on. We carry on about band and the upcoming concerts. I drive for about a minute or two then take a left on Washington.
"My mom is really different out of school," he says. I can see a big white house in view and I start to feel nervous.
"Ah," my voice cracks and I readjust my hands on the wheel, they are clammy and wet.
"Its okay" he says, trying to calm me. I nod. I use to have his mother for math, maybe a week or two, such a nice person and a great teacher. Her class was too easy for me, it was Algebra 1. So I got bumped up. Now I feel so guilty because of what happened between Luke and I. I deserve to be punched in the dick multiple times for what went down.
I turn into the driveway and pull up next to the green jeep. I turn the key and pulled it out.
"Ready to meet the rest of my family?" Luke smiles and unclips his seat belt. I nod.
"Of course" I smile back at him.
And with that, I open the car door and step out onto the gravel. I take a deep breath and let it out.
Ready.
