Santana sighed. It was the last day of freedom for her. Summer break was over.
She was picking out her clothes for the next day and wished she could skip school and hang out with Mercedes and her family.
So she grabbed her phone to make plans to go to the beach.
Mercedes responded that she couldn't talk long. She was on break.
Santana hurried to mention the beach for a time that everyone was off. At least the teenagers.
Mercedes loved that idea (based off all the emojis she sent) and replied that she'd text her sisters about it. That maybe they could go see Laura since she lived in New Jersey.
Santana asked why did Laura live in New Jersey.
Mercedes returned that her brother, Marc wanted to go to Princeton so that's what their plan was.
Santana had to know what he looked like.
Mercedes sent a picture.
Santana drooled. Now that was a man! She asked for another.
Mercedes sent her photos of all her siblings in an array of shots before she had to go. She made sure to tell Santana that she texted her sisters the information.
Santana felt better about school and continued to find an outfit for the first day.
P.S.
Mercedes called Santana. "We've got a problem."
"What's wrong?" Santana asked queerly.
"The boys want to come."
"Huh?!"
"To the beach with us. The boys want to come."
"Oh. Okay."
"Okay? Are you sure? They're fools."
Santana laughed. "Aren't all boys? They're cool."
"Okay. We all have this weekend off. We can drive up Friday morning and come back Sunday night. How does that sound?"
"Cool." Santana was ready to bail on school. It'd already been two weeks and she felt like screaming.
"Artie can pick you up."
"Who?"
"Artie. He's really nice. You'll love him. He's my musical husband."
"What?!"
Mercedes giggled, knowing she confused her new friend. "We sound great together when we sing. So does he and Marcy. She calls him her musical sugar daddy and she's his musical mistress."
"Y'all weird."
"Hush up!"
Santana laughed.
"Anyway. Do you want to be picked up at your houses or somewhere else?"
"Somewhere else?"
"You might not want him to know where you live. I know Artie but you don't."
Santana smiled. Mercedes really was thoughtful. "He can have my address."
"Okay. He'll come pick you up at eight."
"In the morning?!"
"You go to school around that time!"
Santana pouted. "Still!"
"You stop that!"
Mercedes' baby voice made Santana feel so much better. She giggled. "Fine. We'll be ready to go at eight in the freakin morning!"
