It was a day like any other in our small little village. I woke up early to go into town while my parents were still slept. On my way to the trading grounds I contemplated just how much my life would change over the next two years. I was already 19, and already promised to marry the eldest of the butcher's twin sons. Sure he was a fine looking lad, but he had this way of thinking he could still have any girl he wanted no matter if he was set to be married or not. After I was born his father went to mine and asked to promise me to his oldest son who was already 5 years old. While his youngest of the twins was promised to one of my best friends, Delilah.
As I was walking someone ran up to me, hugging me 'til I couldn't breathe. When the person pulled away I realized it was Delilah. She was so pretty and just had an amazing smile that could get me to smile if I was sad. That is when she said something that I thought odd.
"You know William was trying to get in with the serving wench at the tavern."
"That should bother me why? You know as well as the other girls I don't want this marriage. Just like I know you three don't want yours either."
"Yes none of us want this, but there is nothing we can do unless we soil our purity."
"I wish that there was another way, because I would rather give myself to someone whom I actually care for. Not a pig of a man, if you can even call him a man."
"Don't we all wish there was another way. Now let's talk about something else"
We both laughed and continued on our way to the trading grounds. On our way we just talked, made jokes, and looked at the scenery.
