Eliza's POV:
After I got all I needed to get I realized that Alisha was now here as well, and she too had a marking, a C. It was weird; I looked to all of the girls and spoke up. "Okay I need everyone's attention. I am trying to help here and I have medicine, food, and blankets. I will help start fires later on tonight if we are here that long because I can see that right inside this window is fire wood. For now I need all the girls that have been cut on their shoulders to make a line in front of me. Please stay calm and hopefully nothing bad will happen to us that is worse than it already is." Beth, Lish, Olivia, and Del smile to me and help the other five girls in front of them. I look at the first girl she has the B and I ask, "How old are you?"
"I'm sixteen, this hurts." She says quietly as I put the paste on the B then cut a little square over it. I smile at her and tell her it will get better just to give it time.
I do the same to every other girl that had a marking then Del did the same for me. After that I grab a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a block of cheese and have everyone sit however they want to sit. The five other girls that were marked sat together, my friends stayed on the log, and the ten unmarked girls split up in groups of five. So I looked to my friends and put my bag behind the log and put the bowl of paste on top of it. I walked around and broke off a piece of each thing for each girl and then said to eat it slowly because we didn't have much and I didn't know how long we would be there and we still needed stuff for later. I ended up going through the whole loaf, whole block, and whole piece of meat. I look over and see four guys staring at me and my friends, and one of them was the one that marked me.
I looked away and didn't know what to do. So I spoke, "So what do you think these letters mean?"
"Well they could be marking us as their slaves." Alisha said.
"Or they could mean that they want something to do with us." Delilah spoke.
"Whatever it is I don't know if I want to find out." Bethany says.
"It feels weird with the way they look at us. Like we are on a display of some kind." I say looking over at them while nibbling on my bread. But I notice the sixteen year old is out of food so I quit eating and take mine to her. She smiles at me and is over thankful. When I am walking back I look to see the man who cut me looking at me with curious eyes, like he is trying to read my actions. So I look down and head back to my friends. By the time we are sitting around, I realize it has to be after noon. People are taking things to the ships, and it looks like all the killing is done and they got all the girls they wanted with us twenty girls. So now all there is to do is wait until we figure out why they did this or when we are leaving if we leave and they don't just kill us here. But for now we just wait.
