ALEX
"You are two minutes away from being late," he stated as he looked up at me, who rushed here all the way from school. Mind you, his office was right smack in the middle of town while school was all the way at the west.
"Two minutes from being on time, which means I'm early you ass," I shot back in between my gasps for air. I literally ran here once the doors of the elevators open. Why does his office need to be at the top floor of a 20-storey building?
"Two sides to the same story," he said as he turned back to his laptop. "Catch your breath and fetch me my coffee. Remember it's..."
"Two sticks of sugar and a creamer. God damn, you drink the same thing everyday. It's not that difficult to keep track so stop telling me every time you see me."
He smirked. "At least someone is keeping track."
That comment caught me off guard and I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks. I hurriedly place my stuff at my desk before leaving his office, my feet bringing me towards the pantry.
I remembered that he liked his coffee hot, but not too hot. After many rounds of getting nagged at, I finally figured out the right proportion of water last week. Filling hot water two-thirds of the way, rest of it is warm water.
I mentally slapped myself. Why do you feel proud for remembering how he likes his coffee damn it!
I walked back and placed the coffee on the coaster that was waiting for me on his desk and went back to mine.
"Your appointment at 4pm is rescheduled to tomorrow, same time. You have one more at 5pm, just to sign some documents. After that you're free to go," I informed him as I scanned through the screen in front of me.
"Great," was his only reply as he continued typing away on his computer.
I sighed and looked at the clock. 2:30pm. I only get off at 6pm. I honestly have no idea why I need to work here for 4 hours, 5 days a week. My only job scope is to scan documents and look through his schedule. I occasionally change his schedule when requested or if something comes up, but it's usually done by Amanda, the PA that was supposed to be here this morning.
She must hate me for making her full-time job into a part-time one.
The rest of the day went by quietly, with me staring at the computer screen or attending to some documents that needed faxing.
"Let's go," Nathan said as he packed his things, making me scramble from my seat. Oh, was it time to go home? Damn, I lost track of time, was a little too busy watching Netflix (without sound, duh. What are subtitles for?).
The both of us walk quietly to my car. He slid into the passenger seat while I started up the engine.
Now, I'm sure you're asking where is his car. Let me tell you that I have the honor of driving him to work every morning, just before my class starts. I hate you tell you that the traffic on the highway at 8:30 in the morning ain't pretty. I'm basically rushing to school when I could have strolled into class since I was living in the dorms on-campus before. "We are heading in the same direction anyway, you can drop me off and still make it in time for school," were his exact words.
I sometimes feel more like his slave rather than his fiancé.
The drive to his house was quiet, excluding the music that was being played from my Spotify playlist. I was uncomfortable from being in such a small space with him in silence at first but I guess I have gotten used to it.
Don't mess with my head
Don't tell me you're falling
With your feet still on the ledge
I'm all out of breath, baby
Don't run me round and round
Don't kiss me, no, don't kiss me
Right now, on your lips just leave it
If you don't mean itI was humming along to Lauv's new song when I saw him smirking from the corner of my eye.
"What's so funny?" I asked, a little annoyed.
"Nothing, just find your playlist very... interesting." He commented, looking at me straight in the eye.
"Uhm, thanks?" I replied, unsure of how to carry on the conversation. I turned my focus back onto the road.
The rides back have always been like this. In fact, the conversations between us have always been short. Maybe I was still annoyed at the fact that I had to put up with him for a year but I really had no idea how to talk to him. He seemed to have this aura that screamed 'Don't talk to me unless necessary' and it made it hard to approach him.
"What do you like to eat?" He asked, breaking the silence and I shot him a questioning look before turning my eyes back in the road.
"I don't know, Korean food?" I answered as that was the first thing that came to my mind.
He took out his phone and tapped on the screen for a while before placing it on the phone stand. It was on google maps and was showing some GPS directions.
"Follow the GPS," he stated.
"Why? Aren't we going back?"
"We're going to have Korean food today."
"Don't you need me to help make dinner for you today?" Yes, I need to make him dinner but I can't cook to save my own life. I only do the chopping or cutting and Aunty May (his helper) does the cooking.
"Just shut up and follow the damn GPS and stop asking so many questions," he said, though one could definitely hear the hint of annoyance in his voice.
I decided to zip my mouth and follow the directions that was leading me to my new destination.
