ALEX.

"Van, I can't believe he gave me a 'B' for that assignment. I spent many sleepless nights writing that shit," I complained as I stuffed my books into my bag.

"At least you got a decent grade. Mine was borderline so stop with your whining," she answered.

"Whatever." I closed my locker and started to head out. I still had a few more months before graduation and I couldn't wait to be out of here.

"Heading to work?" she asked.

"Yeah," I replied. "There is an important meeting later so I need to prepare the stuff that he needs."

"Someone is starting to take his job seriously," she commented.

I rolled my eyes. "Come on, it's a job. I have to take it seriously. Besides, Nate needs my help since Amanda is off in the afternoon."

Vanessa turned her head sharply and looked at me. "Since when did you start caring about your job? Just last week you were going on about how he was an asshole at work. And who the fuck is Nate?" Shit.

"Nathan? Who else would it be?" I answered a little warily.

"Since when are you guys on nickname terms?"

"Guess that name doesn't really suit him huh?" Please forget what I said. Please don't ask me questions. fingers crossed.

"What's going on? What am I missing out on?" She squinted her eyes and placed her arms as she leaned forward towards me. I, of course, instinctively leaned back. "And WHY do you have a HICKEY on your NECK?!"

Double shit.

"What? No. You're tripping. That's not a hickey. It's- uh- hm- a mosquito bite! Yeah, that's it! Oh wow. Would you look at the time! Bye Van! Love you! See you after term break!" I shouted as I made a break for my car.

"ALEX LIM YOU GET YOUR SNEAKY ASS BACK HERE!" She hollered as she started to chase me down. Someone stop this crazy lady!

I ran as fast as I could toward my car with Vanessa still screaming and running towards me.

It could be just me. Just maybe, but there was a woman standing right across the street and I'm positive she was staring at me.

Why is she staring at me?

I paused to look at her but was immediately drawn back to the matter at hand when Vanessa screamed my name.

Time to get out of here.

"Why do you look like you just ran a marathon? And your hair's in a mess," he asked as he leaned back into his chair.

"Really?" I ran my hands through my hair. "Must be because I was running away from a mad person."

"What?"

"I meant Vanessa, a good friend of mine," I explained as I placed my things down. "She actually chased me, all the way from school. She even went as far as to drive all the way here for fuck sake! Just because I called you by a nickname and she saw the damn hick-"

I immediately placed my hand over my mouth to shut myself up. Damn my habit of rambling.

"What did you call me?" he looked amused. "Must be something good if she hunted you down just because of that, or it could be due to my incredible skills at leaving marks."

"Drop it about the marks! And I'm not calling you that."

"What did you call me?" he asked once more.
