I woke up, and as I did, I rolled over to look at the time on our alarm clock (which didn't buzz). It was past eleven already, so I rushed out the room for lunch, though surprisingly nobody was at the table. Not a single soul but me.
I decided I wasn't so hungry. I had this weird feeling in my gut that something felt wrong. After all, all of a sudden, nobody was here. Where had everybody gone? It was still winter break that time; surely it wasn't time for classes yet. The only thing I ate that lunch was some leftover bacon from the fridge.
After I had finished my lunch, or perhaps breakfast, I went back to my room, still in pyjamas, and opened up FATE again. I decided to reread the email Juliet sent, and I realized we had forgotten about one thing: The group chat.
I quickly typed in the passcode she sent. Done.
Our group chat was peculiar, to say the least. It had the normal functions we'd expect, like sharing photos or videos, but I couldn't scroll up at all. Another strange thing about it was our names. They were all reduced to numbers, with nobody knowing who was who until they said it. I didn't even know my own number.
======================
Me: Hey guys, sorry I'm late
12: That's alright. Who are you?
Me: I'm Angel
12: Oh, okay. I'm Lillian.
20: Is anyone still missing?
Me: Charlie doesn't have FATE
03: Look kiddo, I don't think you get the situation yet.
02: Long story short, Charlie's dead. Allister found him dead this morning.
Me: huh? Charlie's dead? You sure?
12: Yeah, you read that right.
02: At this time we can only stay calm about it since it's clearly tied with Juliet's case. If we go back to what we said during dinner last night, it might have to do with somebody here killing.
02: I'm Amy, by the way.
10: Where's Pip?
03: Number 10, shut up.
02: She retrieved Charlie's phone. She's working on a few things.
19: Woah, Pip's doing Juliet things now?
02: Yeah.
07: Not surprising, Pip's a fast learner. Not to mention Juliet had all those books on hacking, right? They're all still stuffed up somewhere in Juliet's room... Well, until Pip came, of course
19: Yeah, she did.
04: I'd like to investigate the body itself, too. Allie, info?
21: I actually smelled something last night at around midnight. I figure he was already dead by then without me knowing it.
04: You're Allister?
21: Yes.
07: Where's the body now?
04: With me.
12: Who are you, 04?
04: Kiara Peterson.
12: Oh, ok.
Me: How the hell do yall have the guts to deal with stuff like this? Juliet died...
02: We collectively decided earlier that we wouldn't flood this conversation with grief. Given Charlie, and the fact that we can't get outside help, we'll end up having to investigate on our own.
