Chapter 11

5 years later

The day I left Tobias in Hawaii was a turning point for my life. I cut him off completely after that and it's like all we went through never happened.

I enrolled in state college, got my degree in business. Now I own a small bakery in a small town where no one really knows where I am.

My parents were never a huge part of my life so it's just been me and that okay.

I haven't dated anymore since Tobias, I've had a few one night stands throughout the years but that's been it.

When I get in touch with Christina I ask about him sometimes, I hear that he's doing good. He's married, has a daughter... everything he wanted, that I couldn't give.

"Good morning tris" Kyle says to me as I open up my shop for the morning.

Kyle works next door to me. He owns a bookstore.

"Hey" I say giving him a smile

I switch my closed sign to open and flip the lights on. Kyle enters and watches as I pace back and forth getting my shop set up for the day.

"I was thinking since Valentine's Day is coming up, I could take you out on a date" he says and I sigh

"I know we slept together but I'm not looking for a relationship. It was a one night stand and that's all" I say to him and his eyes turn sad.

"We can make this more then just sex. I want to take you out. We're both single in this town, might as well give it a try" he says and I shake my head no and walk past him because I get a costumer. He leaves the bakery with an annoyed face.

"Hello miss, is there anything I could help you with" I ask her and she smiles at me

"Yes. I was recommended by a friend to come here. She said you make marvelous cakes" the lady says

"I try" I humbly say

"My daughter's 3rd birthday is coming up so I want a huge cake. I don't care how much it cost, my husband will be here any minute with our daughter so he will handle the prize and we can talk about cake sampling" she says and I give her a simple okay.

I get some cake samples prepared and plate them on a nice plate for my guest.

When I go back to the table and see the woman's husband and daughter have arrived, I cannot believe my eyes.

My hands become jelly and the plates of cake drop.

"Tobias" I say at the same time Tobias is saying my name in surprise.

"What are you doing here" we say at the same time again.

I bend down to clean up the cake when he comes to my side to help me.

"It's fine. I don't need help" I say fumbling with the cracked glass dishes and crumbles of cake.

I pick up a piece of glass and cut my hand by accident.

He places his hand on top of mine and quickly grabs a napkin to place it on my cut.

"I'm sorry, do you two know each other" Tobias's wife asks

"Lisa, this is Tris" Tobias says going to his wife's side.

"The girl that left you in Hawaii" she says with a small laugh

"No wonder Christina sent us here" she adds and I want to run away from this entire situation.

I want this day to be over and it's just begun.
