Emma, Cleo, and Lewis had witnessed the entire drama with their mouths open. Emma's and Cleo's in confusion, and Lewis in utter bewilderment.
" Wow, that was intense, new girls got guts..." Lewis breathes running his fingers through his hair
Emma and Cleo exchange knowing looks and they begin to pack their bags and hurry out of the cafeteria.
" See you later Lewis " Cleo calls out as the cafeteria goes back to normal.
Some, however, were still in shock over the burn on the bitch's hand.
It doesn't take long for Emma and Cleo to find Rikki. She is at the other side of the building. She was leaning on wall, and taking deep breaths to calm herself. She is still very much on a high.
" Hey! " Emma calls out to her as she approaches.
Rikki opens her eyes a bit, then closes them again. " Oh look, it's the princess and her hand maiden. To what do I owe the honor of your presence " she says lazily.
" Cut the crap Rikki " Emma begins " what the hell was that back there? " She demands.
Rikki only shrugs " you'll have to elaborate your highness " she responds not even opening her eyes to acknowledge them.
" Don't play dumb Rikki. What was that with Miriam..." Emma sneers.
Rikki interrupts " oh is that the bitch's name? " She asks smirking.
" You freaking BURNT her Rikki, how?! " Emma asks, glaring daggers at her head.
Cleo doesn't say anything as she observes the two of them.
" I don't have a damn idea about what you are talking about " Rikki responds finally opening to glare back at Emma.
" For heavens sake Rikki, you BURNT her! When she touched your arm, it BURNT her! How did that happen?! " Emma yells at her.
"Emma..." Cleo tries to salvage the situation before it gets out of hand.
Rikki interrupts her " I don't freaking know okay! The same way you don't freaking know how you froze your damn room! " Rikki fires back.
The heat was coming back to envelope her body like a blanket. Emma however, feels a chill surround her.
" Well, isn't that a wonderful explanation. I'm betting that's what you'll tell the authorities when they come for you ' I don't know '. I assure you Rikki, that won't cut it. Miriam won't let this go, so you better start thinking of another explanation than ' I don't know! ' " she fires back.
" You guys, calm down..." Cleo starts to say as she can see the situation is spiraling out of control. She is worried that someone might hear them.
" And why should I bloody care?! Who's going to believe her whan she says that touching my skin burnt her huh! Cause let's be real Emma This. Shit. Isn't. Freaking. normal! " Rikki yells back at Emma seething.
They all stare at each other for a moment. The heat becoming stronger around Rikki, and the chill intensifying around Emma.
" You know what, screw this! " Rikki says and begins to walk away.
" Don't bloody walk away when I'm talking to you! " Emma yells.
Emma reaches out to grab Rikki's arm. The moment their skins made contact however, something like a light Sparks and they both jump and fall to the floor. Emma cradles her palm, while Rikki cradles her arm.
" Emma are you okay? " Cleo asks worried, crouching beside Emma, who looks at Rikki in horror.
" You bitch! You freaking burnt me!" She yells angrily.
" Well, you nearly froze my arm off! " Rikki retorts with equal anger.
Emma looks at Rikki's arm, to see that the part of skin she touched is looking blue, but is slowly starting to heal. She looks at her own hand, and sees that the blisters are slowly disappearing.
" What the hell..." She whispers
" No freaking way..." Rikki breathes as she too notices this.
Cleo gasps " fire and ice " she says.
Emma and Rikki look to her. She goes to explain, but the bell goes off indicating the end of lunch, and beginning of the fourth period.
" We have to meet after school. " She says quickly as the others get up from the ground.
" What? Why? " Rikki asks confused
" I can't explain right now okay, but I think we all need to talk seriously, and in a more conducive environment " Cleo explains as they walk back into the school.
Emma goes to complain, but Rikki beats her to it " I cant, I have detention after school" she says.
" Of course you do" Emma says smugly.
Rikki ignores her.
" Okay, fine, we'll meet at Emma's house around 5:00pm " Cleo says not leaving any room for an argument.
Seeing the finality in her eyes, they both mutter a ' fine ' and then head off to their various classes.
