Ravages

I close my eyes, and dream of a better place.
Where mankind isn't such a disgrace.
Shrouded by trees,
Drowned by the thriving green,
Deafened by the songbird's elegy.

I wonder if there's anything left?
Is there a place untouched by mankind's theft?
Wherever I go, nature is ripped away.
Left to decay in humanity's ashtray.

I miss the way things were before.
Before we went to war forevermore.
A war with gender, a war with race
War has become our toxic embrace!

I hear the pain the sirens wail.
I see my comrades beyond the veil.
It seems this violence won't concede,
As long as we stay this harmful weed.

I've become the very thing that I deplore.
I don't want to be here anymore.
Even if I can get away from here,
I'd still stain what I endear.

It seems where man goes, pain will follow.
A pattern that's left me pale and hollow.
Even one like me can infect the very peace we seek.
Our fight for peace has become our biggest critique.

I'll still admire what we have done.
Though it hardly benefits anyone.
It's amazing what we've endured.
All of this, just for a temporal cure.

But until we all feel God's loving grace,

I'll close my eyes, and dream of a better place.
