For some reason my mind could not believe what was happening. We were really going to go and cross the Aphills to find a man who could supposedly help us. I have to admit, I was little, okay really, scared.
I think we all were, actually. For one thing no one was talking, which was odd considering that Ace’s is always talking. We just rode in silence hearing the horse’s hooves come in contact with the ground.
Finally Ace spoke, “Meia what’s on your finger?”
I held up my finger, “Isabel made me take it; we could probably trade it at the village…”
“Meia! Have you gone mad? Did Mirabella injure more than your ribs?” Ace cried interrupting me.
“You never trade anything a royal gave you. It’s their way of giving you luck, or showing a symbol of their friendship. Those things can actually give you power. That’s why it is rare to see anyone with anything directly from royalty. Royalty doesn’t normal befriend commoners.” Robin but it.
I stared at the ring on my finger. Could that little ring really be worth so much?
None of us knew how far away the village was but the horse seemed to know where they were going. It seemed that Isabel had made some journeys to that village before, but for what reason I shall never know. I was a bit disappointed by the fact that we were going to have to sell the horses. Mine was a strong white horse with black spots near his tail. I loved riding the horse, it was smooth and easy. I decided to name the horse Nelson, which he seemed to like. Oh well, he probably would not have been able to cross the Aphills. I decided to tell Ace I named my horse.
“Nelson? You named him Nelson? I think he looks more like Jason if you ask me.”
“Well I wasn’t asking you; beside this horse is definitely not a Jason.”
“Well that’s what I think.”
“I will say it again; I didn’t ask what you think!”
“Then let us ask Robin and see what he thinks.”
“Splendid. Ask your brother then.”
“Robin do you think that Miss Meia here, horse looks more like a Jason or a Nelson?”
I guess it was not exactly fair to put Robin in that position, but we needed to deciding vote right?
“Um… well I think that…” Robin stammered.
“What you do you think? Tell us Robin?” Ace demanded of her twin.
“Well I think… um I guess that we have arrived at the village!” Robin said relived.
“Pardon!” Ace and I cried simotainiously, looking up. True to his word, Robin was right. There was the village lying right before our eyes. How did we miss that?
Ace and I let out a cheer; mainly because we did not get lost which for say would have not been good.
We entered the village on a slow trot, so we did not draw much attention to ourselves, but our method did not work. Everyone stared at us, like we were royalty. No one moved or said anything. They just stared.
“It seems they do not get travelers very often do they?” I whispered to Ace.
“Meia, this is a remarkably small village hidden in the foothold of Aphills. Do you really think they have travelers coming through every day?”
“But they must get visit from the animals,” I said.
“Ha ha, you are hilarious.”
I cocked my head. “I know.” Ace rolled her eyes. Soon the villagers had gone back to their tasks and paid us no attention. Mayhap this little ring was luck.
