I led Ace and Robin back into the village. Thankfully no one was outside; the village was taking a mourning day for my father.

“Where is everyone?” I don’t remember a village ever being this quiet.” Robin asked me/

I sniffled. “They’re taking a day of mourning.”

“For who?”

“Robin! Mind your own business!” Ace said scolding Robin.

“My father….” I whispered.

“What!” Ace cried.

“My father passed away not too long ago.”

“I’m sorry for your loss.” Ace said quietly.

“Yeah, me to.” Robin whispered.

“Yeah, it’s been a pretty big blow.” We walked in silence the rest of the way.

When we passed the village inn Ace looked confused... “Where are you taking us Meia? The inn is right there.” She said puzzled.

“The inn’s prices are too high. I have a better place.” I said grinning develiously.

We walked deeper into the village and Robin’s and Ace’s faces getting more twisted with each step.

Soon we arrived at my small home. Evening was falling on the silent village and I knew that if my mother didn’t let Ace and Robin stay, they were going to have a difficult time finding somewhere else to stay.

“Come on we are almost there.” I said motioning for Ace and Robin to follow me. They did and soon we were at my house.

“What is this shabby old place?” Robin asked wrinkling his nose in disgust.

“My home.” I said simply. Ace slapped Robin’s arm. “Be quiet! Do you want to sleep outside again?!” she muttered.

I knocked on the door. “Please leave, we are in a period of mourning.” I heard my mother call.

“Mother, it’s me. Meia.” I replied.

“Oh Mimi! I’m so sorry!” I heard my mother unlatch the door. My mother gathered me in her arms. “Oh Mimi.” She moaned.

“Mother my arm.” I groaned. She was pinning my crippled arm.

“Oh sorry.” She said. Then she saw Ace and Robin. “Who are they Mimi?” she asked.

“I’m Aceline Irene Milady. And that is my twin brother, Robin.”

“Robin Blade milady.”

“What do you want? And you don’t need to call me milady.”

“We were wondering if you had a room we would be able to rent out.”

My mother looked surprised. “Well… um yes. I believe we do. Follow me.”

Ace, Robin, and I followed my mother inside. I heard Adela run into the kitchen. Her curls were a mess around her head. Her green eyes looked down. Her cheeks were stained with tears. She wore a dress with tear stains covering it, one that she would have never been allowed to wear in public.

“Meia! Your back! Who are they?” she asked.

“This is Aceline and Robin; they are going to be staying with us for a little while.”

“Oh, alright.” She said running back to our bedroom.

“She’s a little shy.” I said.

“I can see that.” Robin said and Ace and I rolled our eyes.
