“Follow me. We need to get some stuff,” Jay said motioning for me to follow her. She led me to a little shed. She pulled two boards out from it. She handed me one, it was soft and squishy. It had a black cord, attached to the black cord was a little bracelet thing.
Jay slipped the bracelet thing on her wrist, so I did as well. “I found the best place in all of Regoria to do the mud races. Let’s go!”
Jay tore down the street, dust flying after her. I tried to keep up but she was extremely fast. Eventually we arrived at a large hill.
“Behold! Killer hill!” Jay screamed and I couldn’t help but laugh.
“So are you ready?” she asked me.
“Jay, I was born ready,” I said smugly.
The two of us climbed to the top of the hill. The hill looked much bigger from the top. I was a little nervous, but determined.
“When I say go, ready set go!” Jay screamed running down the hill. A little startled, I ran after her. Soon Jay had jumped on her board and was sliding down the hill on her stomach.
It was the thrill of a lifetime. You were rocketing down at wicked speed, mud sliding on either side of you. You could see the path your board was making behind you. The wind whipped your hair around your face and tore the scream out of your mouth. I couldn’t believe it when we reached the bottom.
Jay got to the bottom first by about five seconds. When I got to the bottom Jay was there laughing. Her hair was mattered and plastered to her face. Rain stained her cheek making it look as though she was crying. Her clothes were soaked and she had mud stains on her shirt.
“That was awesome, wasn’t it?” she asked.
I nodded, to out of breath to respond.
“Want to do it again?”
“Of course. I’ll race you to the top!”
We took off and ran to the top of the hill. When we got near I slipped in the mud and rolled down the hill.
Jay saw me slip and started to laugh, running down to help me. She grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, let’s keep going,” I said and Jay smiled. We ran to the top of the hill and went down again.
“I won!” I called when we were at the bottom.
“No way, I did!” Jay cried.
“Don’t bother, I won.”
“You’re insane, I won!”
“Let’s just say it’s a tie and get over with it.”
“Good idea,” Jay said holding her hand out. I took it and we shook on it.
I don’t know how many times we raced up the hill and slid down. I don’t know how many times we fell, but I know it was enough for us to be soaked in mud.
Eventually the rain began to slow down ad it soon after stopped. We tried sliding down the hill after the rain stopped but it was nowhere near as fun. We gave up and decided to go back to Jay’s house.
When we arrived at her house Jay went in first and just when I was about to enter everything began to spin. Colors mashed together in a disorganized pattern.
Then that voice spoke, “This is the life you could have lived if…” but I never got to find out what they were going to say.
I bolted awaked. I heard my neck pop and groaned. I really need to stop doing that.
