Chapter 3

Third period was chemistry. Science is definitely not one of my strong suits. I ended up passing the class every year with a low B. I supposed it could be worse. I could be one of those kids who accept D’s in their life. Those are the worst kinds of people. Then theres people who accept other kinds of D’s, which is me, and apparently Kevin.

Third period was definitely fun. The teacher was pretty young, and understood teenagers. She kept up to date with the latest lingo, and was part of the senior student government. I’ve often given her the latest on my social and love life. She has gay friends up in New York that are her closest friends and such, so when I came out, she was cool with it. She even started doing something I do, which I was fine with. It was the way that I say I like something, its another form of saying the word “Yes”, but without the “E” and an “A”.

I did have a group in that class. I can’t say that for all the others. Well in fourth with Kevin and a few others, but other than that, can’t say I really have a group of people to hangout with during class. The people in third are hilarious, and were cool with me being gay. Well most people were cool with it but, I’m going to have to point it out. The group in third consisted of three people, including me would be four. Those three people were two guys and a girl. The girl was Bi and was really awesome. She was a mix of a Lipstick and a Butch.

Now for those who don’t know what those are, i'll tell you. A “Lipstick”, is a lesbian, or bisexual women, who dresses more girly. She wears, as the name implies, lipstick, tight clothes, and I suppose dresses. A “Butch” is a lesbian or bisexual women, who dresses a little more...well, manly. She’ll wear button downs open with a white tee shirt and jeans. I'll let you try and imagine what my friend looks like here.

Her name is  Melanie. Melaine was pretty great. I don’t know if it sounds weird, but I wanted to get to know her more. She seems like she has a lot of things in her past. For starters; she went to catholic school, then came to public school her tenth grade year, and joined choir. I have seen a lot of her, just never really had much time to talk and socialize. She definitely has a past I’d like to learn about. In class, her and I talk about music, and choir. We both had the class during second, and often walked to third together. Mel and I have every similar music taste. We clicked really quick too. We get along really well, but then again, I try my best to get along with everyone.

Then there’s Blake. He often made a lot of jokes, sort of another class clown. He was funny though. He even made a lot gay jokes, which didn’t bother me. Melanie often joined in and made a funnier joke. For a while I noticed that Blake looked at Melanie in a different way than others. Kind of like the way Kevin and I looked at each other in the lighting booth earlier today. He has had a crush on her for a while. I thought it was adorable because she was really nice to him and I think she knows. But she is talking to someone else in band, which really sucks for Blake, he really does like her.

Last but not least of the group was Oliver. He was a cool dude. He’s even eyed me a couple of times. I haven't tried to do anything because he’s not really my type. Sure that sounds mean, but just because someone likes you, or you like them, doesn’t mean you’re meant to be together, or to even try it. If someone says no, it means no. No in itself is an entire sentence. Oliver was one of those guys that I was fine with being friends with. Considering that I am his eye candy, I was shocked. He never tried to talk to me about it. Maybe he was scared that I’ll out him. I wouldn’t ever do that to someone. It’s really  not the right for anyone to out someone. People stay hidden for a reason; Fear. Fear of society and fear of being unaccepted, because no matter who you are, and how much you say you don’t care. you want to be accepted, and you want to fit in.

Third period was always a blast. We worked while we talked, and talk while we worked. Ms. Manson was okay with the talking, but of course, she had days where she’d lose it if we were way too loud. She was also pretty funny too, she was a jokester and one of the few teachers who had a sense of humor. A good one too. There were occasions that I made a comment and it made her laugh, she even used my form of, well, appreciating things. There are also times where we completely and totally agree on pop culture things. Things like, why that celebrity shouldn't have gotten together with that one, or how that one dumped the other one for cheating, and of course how one wrote a song about the other one, that sold millions. Or that one singer who dropped an  entire album without anyone knowing it was even in production.  It’s a fun thing to do.
