Wings of Fire: Meet the Guardians of War (Book 1 of The Power Prophecy)

Chapter Two

So after they talked, they went on to find Professor Shakeground who was waiting for them outside of the academy. They were going to the Dragon Mouth Cave. Which was located at the back of the academy. This place is where the Guardians of War will stay. But before they started flying, Professor Shakeground warned them to always go back to the cave if night has fallen. But the dragons are sometimes irritated because of how Professor Shakeground scolds them. But they never care about it anymore. And seeing them disappointed, the professor stared at them and they were startled.

"Fine Professor. We will be back at the cave before nighttime comes." They all said at once and sighed.

As they went outside, the sun has already risen. The sun was beautiful and was not that bright. They all flew to the destination where they will be staying.

After they landed, they went inside. It was nice and cozy inside. Just the right temperature for them too. Professor Shakeground said that he has to take care of other things, meaning he would not stay with them because he would be too busy. So he broked his promise to the dragons that he would stay with them. And the dragons were happy because there is no one to scold them except all of them would scold to each other. Now, they didn't know what to do. Then, Bloodfang spoke up for things to do tomorrow.

"So it seems like tomorrow would be our first real work. We would have to patrol every place of the academy. We would patrol until night comes. If you see someone in the academy tell them to go back to their homes because its not safe outside. Get it?"

"Yes" all of his friends at the same time. They know its gonna be a tough work for them but they know they can do it because none of them disagreed to Bloodfang's decision. Which means it is final and that there is no going back again.
But today, they can rest for a while and hunt something to eat like a deer so that no one would get hungry later. So, they have to plan who would hunt and who would guard their cave.

"Me, Nighshadow and Shockwave will hunt the rest of you will guard this campsite okay?" Bloodfang said in his leader-like-voice. So the three of them left to hunt. But they needed to think where to hunt.

"I heard there is a little forest in front of the academy. Want to go there guys?" Asked by Shockburst.
"Well, its not that far from us we could just fly a bit and we will be there in no time. Nightshadow said with a smile. He knows every single thing from small things to big things. He was always called the "Bookworm" of his family because he never stops reading scrolls and books. Anyways they were heading for the forest. Which was also located near the ocean.

"So today we hunt deers for now okay? Since they are pretty slow at running." Said by Bloodfang who looks like he can't take it anymore and that he can eat ten deers in a row if he would be hungry, really hungry. So when they arrived they haven't seen a deer yet because the forest was little but thick. But, when they went further they saw a lone deer. They put out their stalking stance and were ready to take down the deer. But before they could even kill it something made a noise behind the deer whick made it froze. They all hid in a bush but not the deer. A sound that was big was coming. Thump thump thump. And followed by a sound pf cracking leaves. They didn't know what to do they wanted to kill the deer already but they couldn't because if they do, they might be the target of the creature.

"This is bad we have the deer in front of us we could already take it but if we do, might get attacked by the creature. This wasn't suppose to happen. What are we gonna eat then." Bloodfang though in a panic but he remembered what his mother said to him that panicing will make you loose focus.

"Relax Bloodfang. You can think of another place to hunt." Bloodfang calmed himself but was also disturbed by Shockwave.

"Bloodfang, something is coming behind the deer. We should probably get it before it takes the deer." Shockwave said in a panic.

The three knew that no bears live there or any gigantic creature in the forest. Except for a ground sloth. But those creatures never make a noise with their feet.

"We can't do that! We would be in great danger." Shockwave immidiately realized what she said.
Nightshadow let out a soft roar. He was using his echolocation to locate where the noise was coming from and he detected that it was in front of them.
"Guys its near us." Nighshadow said in an alarmed voice but not too loud.

They all watched the deer get killed but instead, they saw a huge Paraceratherium walk by. It scared the deer a bit and ran away. The creature turned to them but wasn't scared. And then, it decided to leave to find some water.

The three sighed. They thought that something huge and dangerous was coming. But now that they know its just a gentle giant they soon walked away trying to find another dear in a different area.

They soon spotted a dear in a nearby pond. They killed it and took it with them, along the way they found a lost dragonet who must've been playing in the woods but suddenly get lost. They took the dragonet with them and soon it met its parents.

They soon got back to their camp dropped off their dear and rested.

"So I'm guessing this is our dinner?" Winsor asked.

"Yeah. That's all we could find. We'll probably hunt two more later. Oh and by the way me, Shadow and you are patrolling the whole outskirts of the academy just to see if there are anybody staying late or lost. Soon we'll probably patrol the whole continent." Bloodfang replied.

"Alright. We can all rest here in the meantime while we wait the sun go down. Then, we go." Winsor smiled.

Shockwave then told them that she was gonna go to her room which she has picked a while ago just to rest.

Their day might have been boring but this was just the beginning of their life as a Guardian.
