Chapter 4

I took a breath as I sorted out my options. So far it was either I turn myself in for murder or hide the body, neither of which sounded like a good idea. Naturally, I didn't want to go to jail or have to explain why I did it, so I did what I knew I had to. I grabbed a pair of gloves and went to the garage to grab a shovel. Before you ask, I have no idea why I have the perfect shovel for this. With the shovel in my hand, I went back to the kitchen and dragged the body to the door. Lucky for me, the fence around my backyard was high enough that no one could see over it. I dragged him towards the back corner of the yard.  Come on Mallory. You have to do this as quickly as possible so you can try to forget about it, I thought to myself as I dug the hole.

Once I was done, I dropped the body inside and filled the hole back up.  I rushed back inside, put everything back in its place and went upstairs to take a quick shower. Beforehand, I ordered some food on GrubHub. I finished showering and getting dressed with perfect timing since my food had just arrived. As I sat down to eat, my phone buzzed.  When I checked, it was another notification from the app. It just had the smirking emoji on it. When I slid it open, there was another set of instructions. I took a deep breath and started to read it.

Good evening once again! You've completed the first test with no problem. You are one step closer to being deemed worthy, but completing this test does have some drawbacks. Before handing out your first task, and before you even had our beloved app, we had cameras installed into your home. That means we have video evidence of what you did. Now that you have committed yourself to us, you are stuck with us until the end. If you disobey, this video will be shared with the police and there will be even worse consequences for you.  Not to mention that our many agents are everywhere, watching you. Your next official test will be given to you tomorrow. Though before you can take the next step into being deemed worthy, and therefore getting us out of your life, you will have to answer this riddle for us. 

What is seen in the middle of March and April, but not at the beginning or end of either one?

Once you figure out the answer, go into the living room and say it loud. If you get the answer correct, you'll know from a notification we send you. If you get it wrong though, you'll recieve nothing. Remember, no test until you say the right answer! Good luck tester 021603!

I sat there staring at my phone. I tried thinking of all the possible things that happen in both March and April that only happened in the middle of each month. Snow was out of the question and so was rain. When I tried to look the riddle up, my phone would disconect from the internet. "Come on, at least give me a hint!" I yelled out.

I sat there for five minutes before realizing that I wasn't going to get any kind of help on this. I groaned and finished my food before heading upstairs.  I plugged my phone in and laid down. I thought of  things that could answer t the riddle until I fell into a dreamless sleep.
