Prologue
3rd Person POVLance was ecstatic.
For months on end, Lance had been a verbal punching bag. As the war dragged on, every paladin eventually snapped, one by one.
First was seemingly Keith, although that's not hard to believe. He was so wrapped up in his own grief that he had completely shut out those around him, bottling up his anger until he eventually let it out, usually directed to Lance.
Next was Allura, who was locking herself in the control room every night, trying to end the war once and for all. She was determined that she was the one who would have to end this war. Not just for her, but for her fallen father. Of course, it's almost completely impossible for one person to end a war, but it's possible that the lack of sleep was messing with her head.
Third was Pidge. Her persistence of trying to find her father was hissing her into madness, and almost like Allura, she was getting no sleep. Lance was now in charge of getting both of them to sleep at least for a few hours a week. All the work he had to put in to pry them off their computers and off to bed, left him with going weeks, once a solid month without sleep.
Shiro followed close after, the fear of death slightly sinking in as he became much more aggressive, yelling and barking orders, now becoming a tyrant instead of a leader. Lance became the unappreciated knight that protected them all from him when they had lost a battle or made a mistake.
Hunk and Corran were last, happening at around the same time, both facing a slightly better transition then the rest of the team. Their anxiety had caused them to fall back into cooking and cleaning, and they had stopped standing up for Lance.
Now it seems like Lance was left out, but the truth was he had broken far before any other member of the team. In fact, the moment he left of the garrison he started to have panic attacks. He was sick to his stomach about whether of not he would be able to take care of his siblings, (He wouldn't be missing his parents, but I'll get to that.) so you can imagine his mental state when he went to freaking space.
Anyway, now every member of the team was talking down to him for not spending much time training, completely ignoring the fact that all that time was spent taking care of them. He was so desperate for their approval, heck, any kind of recognition, that he restricted himself to thirty minutes of sleep every other day so he could train.
Now, he was an even higher training level than Keith. Did Voltron care? Did Voltron check the his score like they did for Keith? Of course not. And because they didn't, they gave him the most small and meaningless missions, as they saw him as 'useless' and 'incompetent.'
But one day, finally Allura had given him a good mission. Lance thought this was his chance to prove that he truly wasn't worthless.
How would he know that she was fed up with him?
How would he know if she decided to not to put any effort into the mission, thinking he would have failed, and the bomb would put him out of commission?
How would he know she wanted to be the blue paladin?
How would they know the bomb had no count down?
...how would they know someone would come?

I'm going to try and make this a three shot, seeing as though I have a good idea where I'm going with this. I know that this chapter was short, so I'm going to try and make the next one longer.
