Next morning, all I feel is sadness. A depressing pain.

I couldn’t find the happiness I had before.

Marcus shook me awake softly, and my eyes fluttered open to the orange sunlight.

“Hey there sleepy head,” he said with a soft smile, “how are you feeling?” I shrugged my shoulders sadly and put my head down. I love my brother, but I don’t want him freaking out that I’m depressed. “What’s the matter?”

“Tired,” I said as I closed my eyes again.

“That’s not it,” he said as he sat up. He ran his soft hand over my forehead and through my hair. He stopped when he reached a few tangles that hurt. Sometimes, he even accidentally yanked out a hair of mine. “What’s wrong little bug?”

“Forget it,” I said. I really can’t hide anything from Marcus. I could only begin to cry. My throat burned, creating the tears I couldn’t hold back. My lips quivered and I sniffled my nose, to keep it from running.

“Hey,” he said softly as he ran his hand up to my cheek. He wiped away a loose tear, then he sat up. “Jenny, what’s up with you?”

“Nothing,” I said as I continued to cry.

He put his arms around me, and enclosed me in a warm hug.

I hugged him back, knowing it was the only thing I could think of doing that would make me feel any better at the moment.

Marcus is basically my best friend because he protects me. Normally, people have best friends they have to invite over so they can be comforted, but Marcus is my big brother, and he will never leave me to die or cry alone, no matter where I am.

Marcus left the hug and sat tight in front of me as I kept my head down to cry even more.

He ran his hand across my cheek, and put pressure on the back of my neck so I have to look up at him.

I just continued crying. I couldn’t stop it anymore.

“Tell me what’s wrong,” he said softly, “please.”

“Don’t be mad,” I said, “promise me you wont.”

    “I promise,” he said softly.

“I’m falling into depression because of dad,” I said as I began to sob.

Marcus had a very panicked look in his eyes. “You can’t go out like Kenny did,” he snapped in a scared manner.

Yes, that’s how Kenny died. He was very depressed, then I snapped him right in half by a few simple words, nobody wants to hear.
