"So come on, let's hear something you've written," Miles said as he eyed me, shoving an electric guitar into my hands.
"I prefer acoustic," I said, almost like I was trying to be a smart alec. Miles turned around and grabbed a different instrument, handing it to me with a small smirk growing on his face.
"How come? Can't you play it properly or something?" He asked, curiosity dominating his voice.
"Miles," I heard Flora intervene, a light whisper tickling her voice.
I diverted my eyes to the floor.
"Oh, I can it's just, personal things," I said, pausing briefly. I felt myself becoming increasingly nervous and fidgeting with my jumper sleeves as I held the guitar.
"Well anyway, play," He said in a demanding tone, still holding his position before me. It was as though he didn't care what my reasons were, but I was thankful for that.
As I began playing the instrument, I felt two sets of eyes locked on me, like I was prey being hunted by a predator. The song I played was fairly easy but classed as a long piece.
After almost four minutes of me strumming the guitar to specific chords, I stopped and looked at the two Fairchild's before me.
"Woah, that was amazing!" Flora exaggerated as she ran up to me, wrapping her arms around my waist.
"Thanks, my dad used to teach me before-" I began before I managed to stop myself.
I looked at Miles and noticed his proud smile had left his face. He appeared to have a look of sympathy masking his facial features. He approached Flora and me slowly.
"Flora, go and see if Kate is ready for you, for your lesson," The boy said as the little girl wrapped her arms around me tighter. Even though she had a small frame, her body sure gave off heat.
"No, not unless Elizabeth can come too," She whined. I set down the guitar to my feet and moved my hands onto the girl's arms.
"Flora, what do you want to be when you grow up?" I asked her, looking down at her.
"Umm, either a chef or someone who helps animals,"
I chuckled, "Well, you'll need to get a good education for that won't you?" I replied bending down to meet her at eye level.
"Mm, yeah I suppose, but I'll only go if we can play later" She stated.
Flora saying this caused a smile to grow on my face.
"Sure, whatever you want Flora," I said as I stood up and the girl left the room.
I heard Miles laugh slightly from the chair he was sitting in, clapping his hands together in a sarcastic motion.
"How the hell did you do that?" He asked, looking up at me. I peered down at him, a half-smile on my face.
"I honestly don't know," I laughed.
"She has taken to you, maybe that's what did it" He commented, not pulling his eyes away from me, "She's going to want to take you out for a ride on the horses most likely,"
"I would love that," I said, sitting down on the mattress which lay comfortably on the floor.
"Kate told me about, well, y'know," Miles blurted out as he arched his body forward resting his chin on his palms.
"W-what are you talking about? What did she tell you?" I asked him.
I watched him as he stood up, his eyes wide with worry, and made his way quickly towards the bedroom door.
