I sighed, pulling myself to my feet and placing myself on my bed. The boy before me remained on the carpet, giving me a horrified expression. He climbed to his feet, still eyeing me.
"C-could you try-" I cut the boy off immediately.
"I can't, Miles, not that I would anyway,"
"W-why not?" His stutter made me laugh lightly. He leaned on the bed beside me, his hands hanging awkwardly and loosely by his sides.
I stared up at him, my hands becoming fidgety in my lap, "Drop it, Miles,"
I swung my legs onto my bed, laying my back down on the soft sheets. He watched my every move intently like I was a mental patient about to escape my room.
"Fine," He began to sound pissed off at my response, "But, I'm going to get it out of you one way or another,"
"Oh, and how might you go about doing that?" I smirked. I could tell he was becoming peeved at my sassiness.
He strode over to me, leaning over myself, "You better watch your back, darling,"
He's right there, hit him!
He did not just call us "darling"...
I scowled heavily at him, "Take it-"
I got cut off by a blood-curdling scream. It was Kate, I knew it straight away.
I jumped off of my bed, flinging myself into the door and throwing it open. I didn't wait for Miles, who for sure was following me.
"Kate!" I shouted, almost screaming my aunt's name.
I sprinted to where the sound was emanating from, the east wing, the forbidden part of the house. I stopped suddenly, staring down the empty hall.
"Elizabeth," Miles spoke from behind me, pausing to catch his breath from running, "It's off-limits for a reason,"
I ignored his voice and went to walk down the dark corridor.
"No you don't," Miles mumbled as he wrapped his arms around mine from behind me. He held my arms back and prevented me from walking down the hallway.
"Miles, get the hell off of me!" I yelled at the boy as Kate's screams only increased in volume. I attempted to get out of his grasp, pulling forward away from him and trying to move my arms, but it was no use.
Damn, for a boy who lacks any kind of muscle, he's hella strong.
Do you think it's him who's strong?
Huh?
Girl, you work out and have abs, he cannot be stronger than you...
"Out of my way!" I heard Mrs. Grose shout loudly from behind us, darting past us and into a room to the left. For an elderly woman, she sure moved fast.
I stood in shock as I heard Kate's screams only get louder and louder. Miles still remained attached to me as I started to go limp in his arms.
I felt myself begin to cry at the constant screaming.
Don't cry, you don't want Miles to see you like this...
Miles was gobsmacked the entire time, holding me when I turned around and buried my face in his neck.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and cried into his shoulder, his blazer soaking up the tears.
I felt his hands graze my waist just as Kate's screams died down. I stopped sobbing as I heard footsteps approaching behind me. I pulled my head up to face a terrified Kate and a startled Mrs. Grose.
"K-Kate?" I faced her, removing my hands from the boy beside me.
Her blue eyes, once full of life were dull and had red rings around them. Her lip was bleeding and looked to be bruising, and her hair was in all kinds of knots. Not to mention how her clothes were torn and ripped all over.
I eyed my aunt as she strode up to me, pulling me into a hug. My head was pushed to her shoulder by her hand.
"W-we need to l-leave, now," Kate stuttered out as she pulled away from me, holding my hands in hers.
"Kate, you're not going anywhere, you made a promise to Flora," Mrs. Grose butted in causing Kate and me to look over at her.
"You know exactly what just happened to me in that room! What I saw!" Kate raised her voice suddenly, causing me to jump about a foot backward away from her.
"Fine, leave just like everyone else," Miles cut in this time. The three of us turned to face him, "But if you do, just know you'll have broken Flora's heart, just like Miss Jessel did," He practically whispered the last part.
Mrs. Grose sighed and strode off down the hall, while Kate grasped a hold of my wrist and began dragging me to my room.
"Wait, Kate," I muttered as she dragged me. I glanced back at Miles who had this sudden wild look in his eyes. He trailed behind us, jogging to catch up.
Once we got to my room, Kate spoke once again, "Pack your bags, we're leaving,"
