"Stop biting me!" I yelled at Thorn. She was about the size of a large dog; considering she only hatched three days ago. Thorn stopped biting long enough for me to shove her in my backpack. I had school today.

"Let me out!" Thorn screeched. I had taught her how to speak most words. "I will burn your papers!" Her muffled voice yelled.

"Shut up, or both of us are dead meat!" I hissed through clenched teeth. That shut her up. I pulled my heavy backpack on, and ran onto the bus. They were already taking attendance on the bus, but luckily, they hadn't said my name yet. I sat down next to my best friend, Maddie. They were on the last three names.

"Julie Rodgers!" The bus driver yelled.

"Here." My friend Julie raised her hand.

"Katerina Williams!"

"Here!" I raised my hand.

"Madeline Buckling!" Maddie raised her hand silently. The bus driver was done taking attendance. He started the bus with a sickening lurch, and we were on our way to so-called high school.

"I have a secret in my backpack, that no one can know about." I whispered in Maddie's ear.

"What is it?" She whispered back. I looked into her blue eyes.

"A dragon." I smiled.
