A mistake made once is innocence at best.

the pain that lingers takes so long to be less

One finds it hard to breathe when you realize

the whisked away happiness, and loss of paradise.

No one promised her ease in life

yet no one told of the daily strife

Live a life and be happy but never let on

To the pain and guilt you're always stuck upon

You wear your hope down with the toll it takes

Heartbreak and loss become familiar and aches

So what shall she clutch to in a world of darkness

the one thing she can touch: regret, the sting and sharpness

She is happy, you think, you won't see her cave

she won't give into the hurt, she will appear so brave

because, you see, a light though dim she is clutched to tight

a euphoric future? She screams of longing, for it just might.
