"Hello?" I ask as I answer my work phone. The other line stays quiet for quite a while. I lean against the back of my couch in confusion. The line stays silent and I go to hang up.
"I have no advice for you, " the person on the other line says. I move my hand away from the end call button. I sigh frustrated and punch the bridge of my nose.
"Then why did you call? Stop calling this number unless you actually have information," I tell the person. The other person's breathing rings through the phone and I took my eyes annoyed before trying to hang up.
"Wait, I do have advice for you," the person says. I sigh and sit up. I lean on my hands and wait for the person on the other line to say something. The person takes a deep breath and taps on something.
"The people you're looking for. Their names are Leon and Wyatt. The one with fire powers is Wyatt and the one with ice powers is Leon, " the person tells me. I stare at my phone for a minute in surprise.
"Thank you," I tell the person. They hang up on the other line and I sit back in the couch and think. Leon and Wyatt. Interesting names for a pair of villains.
I check my phone and see that it's already six in the morning. I go into my room and put my work clothes on. I mess around with my hair and make sure that it looks good.
I grab my phone and some of my other stuff and walk out to my car. I throw my stuff in the back and turn on the ignition. I drive the short distance to the office that the investigative team work at and park in the back.
I unlock the door and stride into the back, keeping my wings folded against my back so they don't bump into anything. Tuesday runs up to me and hands me a folder. She has enhanced hearing so she can hear almost anything anyone is saying from there miles away so we usually send her out to get information.
"We got more information on the villains!" She exclaims excitedly. I walk to the meeting room and sit at the head of the table. Tuesday and Scout sit at my sides and Rhys and Willow at theirs. Ms. Lemon walks in and stands in front of the projector.
"Okay. So we know where these villains have been frequenting. They usually attack public places where there are a lot of people," she goes on for another hour or so before stopping.
"Anyone else have any other news about them?" She asks us all. I sit at the table quietly and wait to see if anyone else has anything to input. Nobody says anything and Ms. Lemon goes to end the meeting but I speak up.
"The one with ice powers is supposedly named Leon and the one with fire powers is supposedly named Wyatt," I tell them. Tuesday turns to me and smiles.
"Where did that information come from?" She asks. I take out my phone and show her the number. She writes it down on her notepad and then shoves it in her pocket. I put my phone away and Ms. Lemon ends the meeting.
Rhys grabs my hand and leads me to his office. He phases through the door but then opens it from the other side smiling bashfully. I ruffle his hair and walk into his office. I sit down in the chair in front of his desk and spread my wings out.
"I've been checking around but nobody seems to know anything about them. But I did hear that their next strike would be at a grocery store on Palm Street," he tells me bleakly. His eyes are sad and cast down.
I stand up and put my arms out. He runs towards me and I give him a hug. He grips onto my jacket tightly. I wrap my wings around him for a minute before he pulls back.
"We've got this Rhys. You should come with me this time," I tell him. He examines my face and gets to figure out if I'm lying. I nod and put my hand out.
"He's not lying, he wants you there Rhys," Scout says from the doorway. I turn over to her and smile gratefully. Rhys take my hand and shakes it. I give him an amused smile.
I turn back to Scout and state at her expectantly. She regains her composure and hand me her phone. I turn the screen on and see a news paper article about the attack that happened yesterday. I read through it and sigh sadly.
"This is so inaccurate," I tell her. She nods slowly. I hand the phone to Rhys and he reads over the article too. He hands the phone back to Scout when he finishes, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Can we take it down?" He asks her. She thinks for a second before running of the room. She comes back with Tuesday trying to keep up with her. Rhys explains the article to Tuesday.
"Yeah, I can go convince them to take it down. I've got a lot of duty on them anyways," she explains. She walks out of the room leaving me wondering what the hell she meant by that. Rhys chuckles and phases out of the room.
I told up my wings and follow Scout to her office. We talk about one of the minions of Wyatt and Leon. Her name is Blythe and she can make machines do whatever she wants.
She's caused multiple car crashes and has hacked into things for Leon and Wyatt. She can disarm alarms and anything else and that makes it really easy for them to get into places.
The only downside to her ability is that she can't be anymore than two meters away from the machine. Me and Scout talk for a while longer before Tuesday walks in telling us that it's time to go home.
I check the clock and it's already three in the afternoon. I pack up all my stuff and clock out of the office. Tuesday, Rhys, and Scout wait for me at the door.
"Want to go to the mall so we can be there when they attack?" Rhys asks. I nod slowly and look around. I frown confused and then to Scout.
"Where's Willow?" I ask her. She smiles and points towards Willow's office. I open the door and peer in, only to see Willow sleeping at her desk. I grab her phone and set an alarm for an hour later.
I set her phone back down and we walk out to my car. I put my stuff in the trunk and they like theirs in beside mine. Scout sits in the front next to me and Rhys and Tuesday sit in the back.
I drive off to the mall in Palm Street. Tuesday plugs her phone into the radio and put a on a playlist. Her and Scout argue over a song by Lizzo and I laugh as I hear them bicker. Rhys holds his hand over his mouth so they don't see him laughing.
I pull into the parking lot and Rhys helps me find a spot. I park there and we get out of my car. I look around the packed parking lot and play with my sleeves anxiously.
We walk inside the building and into the food court. We order some food from a Chinese restaurant and sit down at one of the tables. I told my wings behind me and I see people stare at them as they walk by.
I push my glasses further up my nose and put my hood on. It's hard being a hero sometimes, because you have to hide who you are, and in situations like this, so people don't get scared.
I finish my food and listen to my friend's conversation. I hear a scream from part of the mall and we get out of our chairs. People start running past us and I stop in my tracks.
