"It's mind-blowing how fast someone can get over the loss of someone so dear," A deep voice says, "But, I always knew you were strong, Gilbert."

"And I always knew you were creepy, Salvatore," I sigh, pushing myself off of the couch, "You just scared the shit out of me."

"Oh, yeah, sorry about that one." Damon chuckles, "Let me in?"

"How about no," I deny, "But you can tell me why you're here."

"Well, it just so happens that Elena is starting college soon, and I have to take care of Jer." Damon explains.

"And...?" I pop a eggo in the toaster.

"Well, I wanted you to come back, and help me." He clasps his hands together, smiling.

"No." I shake my head, "No way."

"We can drink bourbon, make master plans-"

"Damon I said no," I cut him off, taking the waffle out of the toaster, "I'm not leaving."

Damon rolls his eyes, "What if I kidnap you?"

"Elena will be mad." I shrug, pouring syrup onto my food.

"She won't know, she'll be at Whitmore." Damon smirks.

"Damon, please, just leave me alone." I sigh, "I don't want to go back to Mystic Falls, not now at least."

As I look to Damon, someone pushes through him, into the house, "Hey, Em."

"Oh, hey Steve." I greet, taking a bite of my eggo.

"Who's this fool?" Damon asks, motioning to Steve who had a folder in his hand.

"My best friend," I smile, taking the folder from Steve, "You're the best."

"I know." He grins.

"Oh, so I have a replacement now?" Damon raises his eyebrows, "That's rude."

"You were never my best friend, that was all Stef." I finish my waffle.

Damon puts his hand to his heart, while Steve runs a hand through his hair, "Well, this is awkward."

"Steve, where'd you get this stuff?" I ask, flipping through the papers that had pages about Bennett witches.

"Robin and Dustin helped me with most of it," Steve shrugs, "Just research."

"Hey, I'm still here, Gilbert." Damon yells.

"For some odd reason..." I trail, turning to Damon, "Just go home."

"No! No way," Damon whines, "You can't leave me to babysit little Gilbert."

"Yes I can."

|

"This is so stupid." Dustin groans.

"How is it stupid? I brought you last year." I smile as we approach the arcade.

"I'm a teenager now! I don't need someone to watch me, plus, Steve and Robin work here, they can make sure I'm safe!" Dustin reasons.

I purse my lips, "Too bad, I'll be with Steve and Robin anyways so I won't be near you, don't worry."

Dustin rolls his eyes, joining his friends at the bike rack.

"Hey Max." I wave, also waving to the two other boys. Since El and Will left, things haven't been the same for their party.

"Hi." Max smiles.

I walk into the arcade, going straight to Steve and Robin, "Hey guys."

"Hey girl, hey." Robin grins.

"Yeah, don't say that." Steve cringes.

"Any update with that witch stuff?" I question, playing around with the chain of Billy's necklace.

"Nope, nothing." Steve shakes his head, "By the way, who was that creepy guy at your door dressed in all black?"

I chuckle, "That was my sister's boyfriend, Damon. He's a blood-sucker."

"Oh." Steve leans his hands against the arcade counters.

"Yeah, and I'm back." Damon's voice rings in my ears, and I slump down on the stool I was sat on.

"Why? I told you to leave." I groan.

"And I told you I want you to help me babysit your little brother," Damon retorts, "Please."

"Have Matt help you or something." I suggest.

"Donavan? He hates me. He hates everyone! He won't help me, and I don't like him." Damon taps his fingers against the wall.

I make a 'tsk' noise, raising my eyebrows, "Damon, goodbye."

Damon hits his fist against the wall, storming out.

"Why don't you just go?" Robin asks.

"I don't want to go home." I reply.

"Why does he want you to help him watch your brother so badly?" Robin questions.

"It's probably because he doesn't want my sister, Elena, to get mad at him if he messes up or does something wrong-and he's just lazy and inconsiderate," I shrug, "I'll go home, just not yet."

"Not yet?" Steve questions.

"I'm not ready, I'm going to be smothered in pity and I don't want that, not right now," I look down at my feet that were hanging off of the stool, "And first, I need to find Billy."

|

I was tapping my pen on my desk, looking through the many scattered papers when Steve bursts through my bedroom door, "Hey, Em."

"Hey, Steve." I greet.

"Would you be happy if I told you the key to getting Billy back is something called a 'Bennett witch'." Steve grins.

My head snaps to him, a smile curving at my lips, "You're joking."

"Nope. No jokes, It's all right here." Steve slaps a packet down on my desk, "I told you I'd do more digging."

I scan through the paper, it said something about Bennett's knowing the spell that can help track a mega powerful witch.

I spring up from my chair, wrapping Steve in a hug, "How would you like to take a trip with me to Mystic Falls?"

A/N: It's a little short, but I promise they'll get longer
