Decomposition #2 (different climates)

The last chapter was about the general stages of decomposition. And now for this chapter, I'll be telling y'all about how bodies decompose in different climates.

Fun fact, an un-burried corpse can decompose 2-4 times faster than a not-embalmed body that's burried 6 feet deep.

Now that's outta the way, let's get straight into it.

In a hot, humid rainforest climate, a corpse can take as little as 2 weeks to decompose. This is mostly because the hot, damp climate is already a breeding ground for flies and other scavengers, so if there's a corpse around that's what they're gonna eat.

As for a cold forest with torrential rain, the decomposition process will take a lot longer; from a few month to even years.  This is due to rain possibly washing away maggots, and the cold repelling flies and other scavengers.

Water corpses are pretty interesting too. Initially, the body will completely stiffen and then completely un-stiffen (I dunno how else to describe it). Then, the skin will swell and wrinkle, causing it all to look pretty
n a s t y.
Cold water will make the body decompose slower than in warm water. In warm or moderate temp water, the heads and feet will balloon, maybe even fall off. The stomach will also bloat and rupture, leaking a gross green fluid into the water.
A lot of corpses don't even get to this stage though, because after about a month it's likely that most of the flesh has been eaten off by fish and other scavengers.

Now for deserts!
Firstly, the body will have a lot of moisture drawn out if it through sand and generally hot climate. Then, maggots and other insects will come and eat away a lot of the flesh. Flies will eventually be replaced with a sort of beetle, somewhere along the line.
Another fun fact, the skin of the corpse will probably turn a strange orange colour during and after all of this. A body can be naturally mummified through this process in a time frame of 11 days to two weeks. Pretty rad if ya ask me.

So yep, that's all for this chapter! What's your favourite way to decay? 👀
