Chapter 1

It's been a long day. The last thing I wanted to do is attend the Summon's ball, but here I am. I'm attending the most prestige event in society, and I'm not even excited. It's only been five years since Omer and Cora adopted me and so much has changed. I learned so much of this life inside and out. I went to business school at Harvard and graduated with honors. Then I took complete control of the company. That was only a year ago. I guess that's the biggest change of all. A year ago, I became the third trillionaire in existence. Somehow I still don't find it in me to acknowledge my own wealth. It's so strange.

I stared out the window. The car seemed to be moving in slow motion to me. I hope this night ends quickly. I had a press conference early in the morning. And according to Tina, our family's publicist, bags under your eyes are disasters to our image. I roll my eyes. Everything in this life is about image. I couldn't go to work in sweatpants and fluffy slippers because I might get hounded by paparazzi. Apparently ending up on the hightlight on TMZ for poor fashion choice isn't the Aslan or Verdell way. It's exhausting to try to be perfect all the time.

No one truly understands the level of fame and fortune until you have to make sure your curtain blinds are closed before using the bathroom in a hotel. I still shudder from the memory. Everyone wants to catch you at your weakness point. Just so they can have proof that you're not worth such a prestige title. I know I'm not perfect. I embrace that. I am no where near perfect, but I have to try for our family's sake. After all, I am the head of this family now. My parents depend on me to keep our family rising while they get to enjoy their life.

I wish my parents were here. Usually my parents come with us, but they refused to this year. Something about us being perfectly capable of representing Aslan Verdell International. I tried to beg them to come, but Omer turned off all available contact. My emails wouldn't even go through. I guess that's his way of telling us to leave them alone to enjoy their five hundreth honeymoon. I smile at that. Dad is definitely a hardass, but I know he loves us.

"You all look like your cat got ran over." Isla, my sister, commented. I turned towards her. She's truly a beautiful Spanish blonde in every sense. She's the definition of gorgeous. Isla is also the more tolerable one to our lifestyle. I lost count how many rooms she remodeled into closets at the Aslan mansion. It's like she was meant for this.

"I don't like cats." Gülizar, my other sister bluntly stated with distaste. She was a turkish goddess with her thick hair and baby eyes. It's the fire in her eyes that made her highly unapproachable. I wouldn't call Gülizar the mean girl. She's just bluntly honest to the point that it's cruel. In college she once outed a professor for trying to have sex with her by mentioning it in front of millions in a live video web conference. Let's just say that his indiscretion cost him his family, career, and public image. I want to say his face too, but I think that was more of Fang's doing.

"It's the Summon's ball guys." Isla exclaims. "Mom and Dad are counting on us to represent them. This is a huge deal. They aren't coming to hold our hands anymore. Today is the day to prove to everyone that our name is here to stay. We are the next generation." She let out a frustrated sigh when no one automatically clapped with enthusiasm. "And everyone is ignoring me. Great. Thanks familia." She rolls her eyes.

Honestly, The Summon's ball, is a joke. Everyone in the room just shoves money to a charity as a public stunt. None of them do it from the kindness of their hearts. It's just a bunch of rich people saying, 'hey, we have money and you should be extremely thankful that we are being so generous to you.' Most of the attendees are completely self-absorbed assholes that don't even know how much a loaf of bread costs. And most of them never had to fend for themselves on the streets.
