Chapter 11
"You can wake up now."
I heard the fimilar gruff voice say. I open my eyes slowly. My hand automatically holds the part of my head that took the impact. It's cold at the touch, making it a little numb. I groan a little as I felt exhaustion waving over me as if I haven't slept for days. I force myself to sit up on the bed and rest my head against the bed frame. I don't feel so good, but I do feel better than I thought I would.
I eye Marcus at the corner of the room. He's finishing putting black suit jacket. A different appearance than his usual laid back look he always has. Analyzing him I couldn't help but think how the suit gives him a criminal appearance. A suit plus his deadly look he always seems to make him dangerous.
His dark eyes pierce mine. I gulp remembering the previous events. To say I'm a little scared is putting it lightly.
He turns his attention to the window. "Looks like there's been a change in weather." He moves the curtain an inch with his finger to get a better view. "We won't be leaving until morning." He closes the curtain, making sure there's no visible gaps shown.
"You almost killed me." I whisper loud enough for him to hear.
"That's an overstatement." He says while pulling out his phone and typing away.
There's a lump in my throat I can't swallow. It's a building fear at the man before me. The fear in those peoples eyes were real. I can't imagine that the pale looks and wide eyes like that. Why were they scared of him? Who was he exactly? Just reenvisioning those peoples faces are making me question my safety with him.
"Stop looking at me like that." He says not even looking away from his phone. "I'm not going to hurt you, Chloe." He finally looks up at me. "I'm just trying to protect you."
"From who exactly?" I couldn't stop myself from asking.
"Them." He said. I'm not sure exactly who's he referring to. "You have enough on your hands with everything going on. The last thing you need is the media after you. I couldn't allow that." He's lying. I don't know how I know, but I do. He's lying to me.
"They were terrified of you, Marcus." I pointed out.
"I'm intimidating." He is right, but that's not everything. I'm sure of it.
"Why did you speed off?" I continue to ask.
"I was making sure they didn't follow us."
Liar. I wanted to scream at him. It's like he prepared his answers before hand. "Why did you knock me out?"
I knew he swerved the car on purpose. A regular person would've shaken me and begged for forgiveness or taken me to the hospital at the very least. But I clearly heard him calm and composed as he spoke in italian. That was definitely not an accident.
"It was an accident." I stop the urge to roll my eyes. "I was about to miss my turn."
He really thinks I'm stupid, doesn't he? I grew up in foster homes. The one thing that I learned is how to pick out liars from the crowd. You had to survive the system and the streets. A young girl was an easy target for all types of shit shows and I avoided them by being smart about who I trusted.
"Okay." I pretend to buy his answers. I just want to go home. When you're in another country with a complete psycho the best thing to do is not to alarm them.
