Chapter 19Blood is for family.
That's the translation I found through google. For the past couple of days, I kept my encounter with that woman a secret. It's not odd for people to have phrases tattooed on them. I know quotes are popular, but I'm not stupid enough to think this is just a coincidence.
The problem is I don't know the connection. I know nothing about Marcus. As much as I want to ask him and hope that'll he'd be honest, I know he won't. All I will accomplish is for him to pull away from me. I don't want that. Regardless of the mysteries, I'd like to think one day he will open up. Now is not the time. So I've tried my best to keep this facade on like nothing happened, yet I'm restless. I want to know. I just don't know how to find out.
I eye the laptop screen with the open tab showing me the email Mr. Ing sent. It's an affirmation that neither him nor his staff have called Eva to meet me. He's wishes to maintain his good view with the company. And blah blah blah blah blah. He also apologizes for any confusion caused, even when he knows it isn't his fault.
I close my computer and turn to face the view of the city below my office. I'm suspicious of everything right now. I was lured into that place, and I am sure it was because of that woman and whatever link her and Marcus have. How am I being involved in this? Who is she to him?
"I'm so sorry, Chloe. I sware I got the call. I wouldn't have disturbed you otherwise. I know you never have time off and this is like your break."
I turn back around and notice Eva shaking nervously. "It's okay, Eva." I smile to ease her fears. It's not like I'll fire her over this. I'm not Gülizar. "I know it's not your fault."
"I felt like we lost billions because me." Her eye lower in shame.
"We didn't. Mr. Ing doesn't have the funds available. He's going to continue to negotiate the sell. Don't worry about it." I hand her a sticky note and pen. "I need you to write down the number that called you." She nods and looks through her tablet in hand. The perfect assistant always adds any form of contact to file of any clients. She's no different. She scribbles down the number and slides it back to me. "Thanks Eva."
"Is there anything I can get you?"
"Tell Marcus he can come in now. And keep this incident between us. Okay?"
She nods and opens the door to let him in. I put the sticky note in my drawer. I smile when Marcus comes in with Eva closing the door behind him.
"What are you hiding?" He asks suspiciously.
I get up from my chair and walk to him. I smile up at him as I wrap my arms around his neck. "I told you it's confidential. It was about a client. I couldn't let you hear some of terms because of the NDA we have in place for situations like this. I'm not hiding anything, I'm just doing business." I peck his lips.
He doesn't look convinced, but I'll keep consistent until he does. He puts a loose stran of hair behind my ear before leaning down to kiss me properly. It's always mind blowing how such a simple kiss can make me melt into his arms.
He pulls away first. "Let's go."
I frown. "Where are we going?"
"Where we were supposed to go last time."
"Oh." After my encounter in starbucks, I was cornered by paparazzi. Luckily, he came to my rescue. Those paps were too close and very aggressive than what I was used to. He noticed how shaken I was, but he doesn't know it wasn't because of the paps. "Can you give me a clue?"
