Divine Silence

I walk towards the light
But the closer I get
The dimmer it becomes

I am afraid
Scared to lose it

Cold engulfs me
An overwhelming loneliness consumes me
Though I am not alone
For a legion of entities surrounds me

There is serenity
Only for a moment

Lovely, isn't it?
Death's whisper in my ear
It's emotionless voice squeezes my soul

I see eyes
Without knowledge of whom they belong to

Simple was my life
And I still breathe
As though it is my right

I do not deserve such kindness
Nor a peaceful end

I should drift back
For only a slight glow remains
Of the once bright light

Turn my back on the joy
I have craved
For I'm not ready to have it

With the twist of a heel
I abandon it;
The divine silence I thirst for
It is not yet time.
