"Kids, I'm going to tell you the story of how I met your father."
Anaïs and Renée gave each other a look before turning back to me with a sudden unease.
"Mom, you're not going to go into a lot of detail like Uncle Ted did with Luke and Penny, are you?" Renée asked.
"Yeah like we just got done talking with them and apparently it took a whole week for Uncle Ted to tell his entire story, and he went into a lot of detail!" Anaïs explained.
"Oh, he did?" I asked them. I honestly didn't know Ted told his kids the story of how he met Tracy this close to me telling my kids.
"Yes! He covered, like, ten years worth of stories before he even got to meeting Aunt Tracy!" Anaïs said.
"Wow," I said. "I actually thought he already told Luke and Penny years ago. And he really went into all that detail?" The kids nodded their heads.
"Well, I wasn't actually going to tell you all of the details like Ted told his kids." Renée and Anaïs sighed with relief. "I was actually gonna keep this brief and tell you about the day we met . . . unless you would rather hear the long versiー"
"NO!" "NO, WE'RE GOOD!" "THE SHORT VERSION IS FINE!" They both argued, standing up, cutting me off.
I put my hands up in defense. "Okay, chill guys. I was just making a suggestion. Thought you'd like a choice here, okay?" They relaxed a bit, Renée nodding her head for the both of them.
"Alright, go ahead and sit down this should only take like ten minutes max but get comfy.
It was actually a pretty crappy day weather-wise if I'm remembering correctly. It was really cloudy and was starting to sprinkle a bit outside. Not to mention really chilly. Man, I should've brought a jacket that day."
Fall of 2015
"Robin come on! We're going to be late for this musical if we don't make the subway!" I pulled Robin along with me as we pushed our way through the crowded platform.
"Okay, okay! It's only 15 mi - oh wait, no shit you're right we have three minutes to get on!"
"You see kids, in 2015 there was this new broadway show that went on to win about a billion Tony Awards and became an instant classic. The only problem was the tickets were extremely expensive. Luckily, for me and a person of my choosing, I won a raffle at work for two tickets to Hamilton."
"Wait, mom, you actually got to see Hamilton in person?" Renée asked.
"Yes! I haven't told you guys that yet? I still have the playbill somewhere around my room."
"Mom, that's actually kinda cool," Renée said.
"I know and it was truly a great show, one of the best shows I saw that decade now that I think about it . . ." I trailed off.
"Mom?" Anaïs starts.
"Hmm?"
"You and Aunt Robin were on the subway . . ."
"Oh right! Okay, so we did make it to the subway and got to the theatre on time . . ."
"How the hell did we get here on time?" Robin asked slightly out of breath.
