Kellen arrived at the entrance of the woods right on schedule. The patrol wolves were already there waiting on instructions from their leader. The men saw the Alpha with a basket and knew their Luna had prepared breakfast for them. The aroma coming from the basket made their mouth water, especially Sam, the pack's Gamma. You would think a 28 year old man would know a little bit about cooking, but he didn't. His idea of a balanced diet consisted of grabbing a burger for dinner, or having a banana for breakfast. Home cooked meals was appreciated. This was just one the reasons he adored his Luna. He knew he wouldn't have to worry about having a well balanced meal. Maybe one day he'd meet his chosen.

"Alright guys, dig in, there's enough for everyone."

The term hungry wolves surely meant Kellen's patrolmen. The Alpha thought to himself. They were literally hungry wolves when it came to Les' cooking. The first thing they always went for first was Leslie's pancakes. The Alpha smiled. He knew exactly how they felt. That man could really throw down in the kitchen. He really should open a restaurant. He'd keep working on that with him.

"Okay, you fat asses, hurry up and eat so we can get to work. I need to get back home."

Sam smirked, and was the first to speak. Teasingly he said to the Alpha, "Yeah, I bet you have to get back home. If I had a pretty thing like Leslie, I'd be rushing back home too."

Sam was gay and made it no secret. Werewolves didn't care about sexuality. It was either you were straight or your weren't. They didn't care either way.

Kellen remained silent. He knew what he and Les had was not what the pack thought. Although he hated lying about he and Leslie's true relationship, he knew the truth would cause instability within the pack. The pack would always be afraid of him leaving his Luna for a female, or his Luna leaving him for another Alpha.

Once a person was deemed a Luna by Seria, that person was always a Luna. They just usually didn't find out their status until they met their chosen, which was an Alpha. The thing with Lunas, any Alpha could lay claim on them if they are unwanted or unmated. It has happened when a Luna lost their mate due to tragedy, or had been rejected. An unmated Alpha had the right to go after them if the Luna accepted. But the last thing on the Alpha's mind was leaving his mate for another. He also thought it was the same with Les.

When it came to one night stands, he'd always tell them that he was mated and would never leave his chosen. The only one who seem to have had a problem with it was Stacy, but his libido overruled common sense. He just hoped she wouldn't cause any trouble.

"I'm surprise you don't have a bunch of cubs running around. What has it been, two years since you've been mated to that lovely creature. I'd keep his fine ass full of pups."

Thaddeus growled at the comment. Kellen had to reign back his wolf. He didn't like the man talking that way about his mate. If Kellen had to admit, it bothered him a little as well.

"No disrespect, Alpha. I'm just saying."

Sam was never the one to hold back his thoughts about the Luna. Kellen always knew he had a crush on his chosen. However, Sam always maintained his distance, and was always respectful. He knew not to cross that line. He loved his Alpha and Luna too much to do anything about his little crush.

"Don't you think it's about time to be thinking about an heir?"

Other members of the team agreed in unison while they continued to finish off their meal.

Kellen and Leslie did talk about cubs when they first decided to mate. They agreed it was best for them to wait until they were older. Until then, Leslie went on birth control. Plus, Kellen would have to be mentally prepared to mate without the presence of the moon. They would have to be intimate prior, during, and post moon. It would maximize their chances of conception. He wasn't ready for that as of yet.

Kellen really didn't know how to respond to the others. If Leslie had been female, they'd probably would have already started trying for cubs. Leslie was 20 and Kellen was 22. They were older now, but should he really bring a kid into their kind of relationship? If he admitted it, Kellen was ready to be a father. The thought made his heart flutter.

"Enough of the baby talk, cubs will come when they come. We have work to do, let's get to it."

"Yes, Alpha," the team said in unison.

"As you know there has been rogue activity in the left quadrant, on the edge of the village, next to the infirmary.

We have to make sure we put extra security in that area. The infirmary holds pups and the elderly wolves. They can't fend for themselves."

Sam was the first to volunteer, then he volunteered Joey, Charley, Billy, and Mike. They were all warriors.

"I'll take the first shift Alpha,  with Joey and Charlie. Billy can take the last shift with the twins,
Peter and Mike." They were all okay with that. It's one thing they all agree, you had to take care of your young and your elderly.

"Thanks, Gamma..Now that we've got that settled. Let's head out for patrol. Group 1, you're with me. We'll take the north. Group 2, take the south. Group 3, take East, and four, take the west. We meet back here at 0600 with our reports. Be careful out there guys. Stay diligent. Link if you need too."

The team scattered into their assigned destinations.

When they were done with patrol, they all made it back precisely at 0600.

"Did any of you guys notice anything off out there."

Joey raised his hand. "Alpha, I sented  an off smell down by Blood Moon's lake. It didn't smell like a rogue, but it was a wolf. Maybe a she-wolf. Her pheromones were still present."

The Alpha remembered he and Stacy were down by the lake the previous day before heading back to his place.

"Probably some passer by," Kellen said trying to down play what Joey said. Just to make sure that no one would get suspicious. He added, "We'll keep an eye out just to make sure she doesn't come back to make trouble. Good work everyone. Don't forget we have training today."

The team groaned. Kellen's training was brutal. 4 times a week, they experienced pure hell. They complained, but they were all grateful. Blood Moon was the strongest pack in the Colorado.

"Later fat asses, got to work off those pancakes. You've been warned." The Alpha smirked.

Leaving the entrance of the woods, Sam yelled back, "I knew there was a catch, fattened us up for the kill."

The team couldn't help but chuckle at Sam's antics. He was one of the best fighters in the pack, but looking at him, you wouldn't be able to tell.
