Chapter 1

Astrid's P.O.V

I gaze at the workshop, out my window, longingly.

I'm tired of stupid suitors.

My parents say I have to choose one so that we can combine nations, creating one large one.

I don't want to.

I'm more interested in Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. Everything about him is perfect.

I walk down the stairs and to the front door.

"Mom! I'm going out!" I rush out the door and to the workshop.

"Hi Gobber" I smile and wave to Gobber, who's fixing a Zippleback's tooth.

"Good morning, Astrid" he waves back. "Hiccup's in the back. Go on in" he chuckles.

"U-Um, thanks" I blush.

Gobber is the only one who knows about my crush on Hiccup. He's always teasing me about it.

Hiccup's P.O.V

I was working on a new design for Toothless's tail when I heard someone walk into the back of the workshop.

"Hey Gob-" I stop, looking up and seeing Astrid Hofferson standing there.

Oh my gods, she's so cute...

"Oh, um, h-hi Astrid" I scratch the back of my neck.

"Hi Hiccup" she brings a piece of hair behind her ear.

I clear my throat, "How can I help you?"

"Um, I brought my axe...can you sharpen it for me? And I brought sketches for a saddle design for Stormfly..." she pulls her axe from her belt and puts it on the table, in front of me.

She puts down some pieces of paper on the table, as well.

I look at the sketches. They're amazing and everything is to scale.

"These sketches...they're amazing..." I take her axe off the table.

Astrid's P.O.V

He complimented my drawing, making my heart flutter.

"Oh, thanks....I hope they're usable....I was hoping I could use this saddle in the next race..." I say, nervously.

"Um, yeah, they should work" Hiccup begins to sharpen my axe on the sharpening wheel.

I hear Stormfly land next to the shop and I run out to her.

"Hey, girl" I pet her nose.

Toothless, Hiccup's dragon, lands next to Stormfly and purrs, looking up at me.

"Hi Toothless" I pet his nose.

I love Toothless. He's so adorable.

"Hey bud" I hear Hiccup behind me.

I pull my hand from Toothless and pet Stormfly again.

"He's really amazing" I say to Hiccup, flipping my bangs from my face.

"Thanks and here's your axe" he hands me my axe.

"Thank you..." I put my axe in the holster on Stormfly's saddle.

"Gobber, I'm heading out" Hiccup mounts Toothless.

I begin to mount Stormfly but slip in the process.

Someone caught me...

"Careful" Hiccup has his arms around me, holding me up.

I hope he doesn't feel my heart pounding.
