Talk to me about what?" Gaara said as he entered the infirmary and shot me a smile. It was as if he was waiting there to show up at the exact moment.
"Kazekage-sama!" I gasped.
"Yes, Kankuro. What do you want to talk to me about?" Gaara turned to him.
"Well, Gaara. We are Temari's brothers, right? Don't you think we should do something for her wedding as well?" He said.
"Yes. But aren't we already doing it? I assign jobs and you oversee them" he told Kankuro with a hint of smugness in his talk.
"That is true, but we wouldn't really feel like we have done anything if we don't slog or sweat for it. So, I will help with the decoration on the wedding venue and that leaves the second most important part, the dress." Kankuro said.
"What are you implying, Kankuro-san?" I asked him as if I were listening to it for the the first time.
" I think Gaara should help you with the dress since you are sick and we need the dress made on time." He turned to me. "That's okay right, Gaara?" He asked looking over his shoulder.
"If you say, I will do it, Kankuro." Gaara smiled and Kankuro sighed of relief.
"Okay. I think you should get to work right away then. Your selection preparations have been made l thoroughly." he said walking out of the infirmary.
"So, what can I do for you?" Gaara asked politely.
"Okay. So, first of all, we need to get my sketchbook in which we are going to design suits, for now. All the preparations are done, so, we will also conduct the selections simultaneously. So, I will sketch and design suits sitting here and you can conduct the selection over there making sure no one cheats and it is fair participation? How does that sound? You wanna add something? Have a better plan?" I asked him.
"You're the boss. Why are you asking me?" He was very confused.
"Just because I'm the boss doesn't mean I can give random orders!" I laughed. "It means that we work together and I have the responsibility of there's any problem." I continued.
"Well, we don't necessarily need to invest time. I can just send a few eyes looking over who's cheating in the room and announce results accordingly. We both can get some work done here as well." He suggested.
"That's perfect!" I exclaimed.
"Let's have dinner now and we'll start working." He smiled
"Yosh!" I smiled back.
We had dinners separately. Obviously since he was royalty and I was just working but the dinner was great. Our dinner was a lot of gossip and laughing. I made new friends instantly and talked to them about why I was hired and everything. They were really sad knowing that I would leave once the wedding is over but they knew we would enjoy our time together right now. I put my dish and rushed back to my sketchbook. I started drawing suits with coloured pencils to imagine the combination as well.
There was a knock on the door, and Gaara stepped in.
"Back to work already?"
"Ofcourse! We have to do so many clothes. I think we might need to hire a team of atleast 8 to make sure we can make it in time, but just to be on the safer side 10 would be great."
"Okay. We'll have the team by afternoon of the day after tomorrow."
"Well, that means I'll have to finish designs by tomorrow morning then, which in turn means no-" I paused if I tell him I'm not planning on sleeping he won't let me work.
"No sleeping early tonight!" I continued.
"Let's get to work then." He smiled.
I showed him the designs that I had picked out for Kankuro-san, Shikamaru-san and other people. I asked him if he took take measurements and he went off with the measuring tape.
"What's taking so long?!" I said as I was waiting for Gaara you come back with the measurements. Finally, I decided to go and look for it myself.
"Gaara, are you done with the measurements?" I asked him as I entered the room.
"Yeah. Almost" he said.
I took a look at the list and all of them were done
"Gaara these are done already. What are you doing?"
"Triple checking." He said calmly.
"Triple checking? You have already double checked these?"
He just nodded.
"Gaara!" I sighed and grabbed the notepad, took his wrist and rushed to my workspace.
"You did a good job but taking the measurements and checking once is enough." I said to him after we came to the workspace.
"Okay, now I'm gonna draw the suits according to the shapes and I'll hold the cloth. Can you cut it?" To which again, he just nodded.
I drew the image of a coat and a shirt quickly according to the measurements and held it up for Gaara.
His used his sand to take the scissors and in no time cutting out all the suit peices were done.
"That was faster than I expected! I think we can do it ourselves as well. No. We will need a team for the dresses. Dresses are a delicate affair." I said to him when I realized I was getting way ahead of myself.
"Okay. What do we do next?" He asked like a little child. Gaara is so innocent! He's almost like a child! And it's so cute when he makes that face!
"Now," I said ruffling his hair as he was sitting and I standing, "we just have to sew them!"
"We'll have to go to my workshop. I don't have my sewing machine over here. And the ones that are here won't work that well for a ceremony. My sewing matching is one of my best friends and the reason why I am here today." I smiled and packed my bag.
We stepped out and stopped to buy some energy bars and powder coffee.
I unlocked my workshop and entered. I greeted my house like I usually do, kissed my sewing machine before starting to put the cloth in it.
"Okay, Gaara. Now all you have to do it step on the pedal there when I say 'Start' and step of when I say 'Stop'. Okay?" He nodded and went over to the pedal.
"Start" I said after putting the cloth and the threads in properly. Saying 'Stop' intermittently, we finally finished one jacket.
"Here! Try it on!" I gestured Gaara.
"But who's measurements are those? Will it fit me?" He looked surprised.
"They are your measurements. Try it on." I beckoned him to come and try it.
He took off his coat and put on the jacket of the suit.
"Your nose is bleeding" he pointed out.
"Uh. Oh. Sorry" I said as I quickly fiddled to wipe off the blood.
Gaara slowly took a corner of his coat and dabbed it slowly under my nose. "This is what people mean when they say kill yourself with work." He said. Gaara was so gentle and his touch so caring. I couldn't help but stare and crave that touch more. He was such a strong man, the strongest infact as he was the Kazekage. I didn't even realize that in his touch. It was the touch of someone who truly cares about you.
"It fits perfectly" he said standing still.
"Obviously it fits when you stand still but raise your hands and check if it is too tight, try stretching the back a little and try buttoning up"
"But it doesn't have buttons!" He informed me.
"True. We'll leave that to the team" I told him and we did our next jacket.
All the jackets were done.
We both sighed after our task at hand was over.
"Come on." I took Gaara's hand and led him outside to a small balcony that we had. " I usually come here to feel powerful." I giggled.
"Powerful?" He looked at me confused.
"Powerful as in not powerful in terms of how much money I have or how many people I command. Powerful in terms of how many people I can make happy"
"How do you feel powerful here?" Gaara asked and I could him trying his best to understand what I was saying.
"Umm... See that?" I put his chin up to look at the sky full of stars.
"Mmhmm" he nodded a bit.
"Do you know why those stars shine?" I asked him.
"Well, they're energy sources that emit light, just like the sun" he looked at me.
"That is true, scientifically. But try to look at it in a more philosophical and personal way." To which he just furrowed his eyebrows to be confused.
"What's the point?" He said, "I know it's not true."
"Ofcourse, it is not true. But personifying things, helps you feel like you have a family. Try thinking about it like this. A new star is added to the sky when you make someone happy and a star is removed when you make someone sad. So, I think it is my responsibility to make sure the sky is full of stars." I looked at him.
"But that's not how there are stars in the sky." He complained.
"Yes. Very true, but that's my reason to make others happy." I explained.
"But what if someone tells you its not true."
"I already know it's not true! It's just the way I like to look at things" I chuckled and smiled at him.
"Gaara," I took his hand and in a serious tone I continued, "Just remember, my illusion works because I know it is one. That's why nobody can break it for me. But if you don't know it's an illusion, someone telling you it's an illusion, is devastating."
"Okay." He said carefully taking note of what I said.
"So, Gaara" I looked towards the sky and returned his hand to him, "Do you wanna know about another illusion? It is said that people who love you, after their death, become stars and watch over you. Who do you think looks over you?"
"Mother," he said softly, "I think my mother looks over me... And Yashamaru, I didn't mean to kill him but I did and everything happened because of my father." He was almost crying.
"Hey, Gaara" I held his hand in mine, "I'm so sure your mom and Yashamaru are very proud of who you have become today" I smiled at him.
"I hope so" glancing at me once and glancing at the sky.
"Who do you think looks over you?" He asked.
"My grandparents. My parents. My best friend. My sensei. My brother and my cat." I smiled.
"You've lost so many people?"
"The. Fourth Shinobi War cost us a lot. Grandparents died of shock at the declaration of another war, parents brother, best friend and sensei died as victim of the Ten Tails. My cat, Miyu, was just collateral damage. Me sensei died a long time ago trying to protect me and said this one thing while dying, 'Everyone has a reason for their belief. Everyone has a suffering for their behaviour' and died with me in her arms." Tears flowing down my cheeks, I still gazed at him with a smile.
"You're crying. Why are you smiling?"
"To try and convince that I'm happy from the inside." I was accidentally honest.
"How do you comfort people who are crying?" He asked me.
"I don't know. Never have felt that"
