The ten year old boy shivered.

His black hair glowed in the shadows; his eyes peered to the right. He wore a black jumper, black trousers, a black belt, brown socks, and black school shoes.

He saw Victoria Winters.

"Are you replacing my Mother?", he asked.

"No. Why would I want...?", she answered.

"Because, of happened".

"I don't know how you could believe such...things. I got a letter from New York to come to Collinsport; I got news, in the space of a day, to come by train to a strange city, and to arrive promptly".

"And Caroline told you why you're here...In this house".

"This house is gloomy".

"Yes, I suppose so. Mother left me as a child. How can a Mother leave me? Am I evil? Do I want to misbehave in front of Elizabeth? No. And Caroline is off to town...And I am alone. Can you see why they hate me?".

And he cried.

***

"Where's your Mother?".

"She's dead. Her name is Laura".

I stared at the pictures on the wall.

In the middle was a woman of regal standing.

"It's her!".

***

David begun to nod, as if he was expecting Victoria to yell at him.

When she didn't, he was confused.

***

I watched David walk to his bedroom.

"If you need anything, let me know".

And he nodded, and headed into the far left side, then closed the door.

***

On the walls, the framed picture of Laura Collins loomed like a specter. She was a women of grace; she was a woman who lived a life of elegance, that formed the foundations of the Collins' family fortune over several centuries.

"Mother, why did you die? Is it because of me? I didn't want anymore pain; I didn't want anymore troubles..."

And, seconds later, a freezing gust of wind blew out of the ether...

David turned around.

And saw a woman's face in the glassy door. It was the face of Angelique.

***

"Angelique!", David yelled.

And, as he screamed, I rushed into his bedroom.

***

"David, what's wrong?", I asked.

"It's...Angelique! I saw her face in the door", David answered.

And I saw the door that he pointed to.

The door was black.

The vampiric doorhandle burnt into my flesh.

"Ow!".

The door was cold.

And I backed away, and I knew that Collinsport was haunted.
