We went back to our apartment. It was still fairly early in the evening, so we grabbed a pizza and watched some scary movies, with the lights on. It was probably a dumb idea, but considering what season it was, and what we've been through, it only felt right. Before I knew it, it was pretty late and I was dozing off on the couch, after all we technically haven't slept in over 24 hours. I didn't even notice when Damien and Jasmine left to go into his room until I heard a loud scream. Naturally we bolted off the couch and ran to his room.
When we opened the door we all froze. What I saw would forever be burned into my memory for the rest of my life. Jasmine was huddled in the corner, in her lingerie, covered with blood. On the bed laid Damien's naked body.
Dead.
I felt frozen with fear and I knew my other two colleagues were as well. Blood, skull fragments and other miscellaneous things were splattered on the wall, ceiling, and Jasmine, who was now sobbing. None of that mattered because my main focus was the pumpkin that rested nicely on Damien's shoulders with the facial expression of pain.
"What happened?" I broke into a soft whisper.
"I don't know!" She screamed. "We were into it, and then we heard a loud snap and then-"
"A snap?" I broke my eye contact from the dead body to look at her in horror.
"Yes! And then he complained about having pain and then..." She hid her face in her hands as she sobbed more.
"Just like the sheriff said." Crystal spoke softly.
My attention was grabbed at the window when we heard a crow loudly caw. There were two crows resting on the sill. One crow kept cawing as the other was standing calmly staring right at Jasmine. Bravely or stupidly I walked to the window to peer out. We had a view of a parking lot, and underneath one of the street lamps stood an shadowy figure, but judging how there were three other crows; two on either side of his shoulders and one on top of his hat, I knew exactly what it was. "The crows are linked." I said mostly to myself.
Justin rushed over to me to look over my shoulder. "Fuck me, I'm calling the cops!" He took out his cellphone and started dialing the number.
"What good are they gonna be?! We are officially cursed!" This was the first time I heard Crystal yell.
I jumped backwards as the crow that was calm started acting up with his buddy. They were both on the sill hopping and cawing then suddenly we heard a loud snap and Jasmine stopped her crying. "I don't feel... Oh god!" She doubled over herself, holding her stomach as she started screaming over and over how it hurts and felt something moving inside of her.
All too suddenly fresh green vines started to appear out of her mouth forcefully. The three of us backed away slowly as the vines started to emerge from her ears and nose. Jasmine fell to the floor when all the sudden her eyes popped out her socket and more vines forced their way out while blood came flowing out with them. She was still alive because as the vines grew thicker she was still screaming while reaching weakly and blindly towards us. My stomach churned when I heard her head split apart as her head grew bigger. Suddenly her head exploded everywhere, much like Damien's. On her shoulder laid a plump pumpkin started to grow rapidly on her shoulders. It already had a carved face imprinted into it, the face was the expression of fear.
I was frozen in place. I couldn't breath, move, or even hear what was going on around me. The sight that I endured was overbearing. I finally moved when I felt the strong urge to throw up. I rushed to Damiens trash can just in time for me to throw up everything I had in my stomach. Everything started to happen so quickly, the screaming, the smell of death, the blood on my skin, seeing her head explode, and the taste of my vomit.
