Chapter 5
Xavier Hayes sat with his face in his hands, shuddering from the shock from coming back from the bathroom only to find his Mother and work partner looking through his baby photos. To his everlasting horror, the photos did include the ones his Mother took while he was covered in bubbles and a toy boat in his hands.
"Mama, please I beg you put those away!" He groaned out, face flush and red from the looks of amusement Felix was giving him. Reaching out he snatched the pile away from the table ad tucked them away.
His Mother tutted and stood up, "I swear you don't snatch from your Mama boy or I'll get the spoon you hear?"
Rubbing his hands into his face, Hayes groaned out, "yes Mama."
Felix laughed a genuine giggle before patting Hayes on the shoulder. "Be kinder to your Mother Hayes, I asked to see them."
Hayes' eyes went wide from embarrassment, once again lightly smacking his head into the table. Though he slumped back in his spot on the couch but moved so he could lay his head on Felix's shoulder. She was looking at her phone for a moment but absent-mindedly reached her right hand up ad ran it through Hayes' hair.
A slight cough caught their attention, Hayes' mother placed a tray of three cups of tea on the coffee table, sitting in the armchair opposite the lounge.
Mrs Hayes took a few sips of her tea before engaging her son in a conversation. "Your brother and Nephew are coming into town next week."
"What about Parker?" Hayes asked referring to his brother's husband.
"Away for work, but I did want to talk to you about my grandbaby."
"Is something wrong with Leo, Mama what's happened?" Hayes immediately set his cup down, worried for his two-year-old nephew.
"No no nothing wrong my boy, but you see I'm not getting any younger and I'd like to have more than one grandbaby before I sit down in the grave." She watched as her son went bright red, and his partner sat quietly, but a small smile on her lovely features was visible over her cup.
"Mama we've talked about this—"
"Oh I know we have but I'd like grandbabies from both of my son's thank you. One son is gay, I can only expect so many grandbabies from him. You, however, are not gay which means more grandbabies quicker!"
"Mama seriously, I'm not even dating anybody, what do you expect me to do?" Hayes' eyes did slip towards Felix without realising, which his watchful mother did see.
"You have a pretty partner right here Hayes, my god by the time you two get together I'll be with your father and Leo will be having kids of his own!" Mrs Hayes rose an eyebrow at the two.
Felix inhaled a bit of her drink and quickly set it down, coughing harshly as was Hayes, who was so red that he could rival his Mother's tomatoes in the garden.
"Mama! That's quite enough!"

Felix laid on her bed, rethinking exactly what Hayes' mother had been on about, surely she didn't think Felix and her son were together. Felix knew they were definitely comfortable with each other but that didn't mean anything.
Hayes at that moment strolled into her room and without a word dived face-first onto the bed, face landing squarely on a pillow and stayed there.
"You okay Hayes?" Felix rolled over and sat on his back, legs straddling him but she was careful not lay all of her weight on him so he wouldn't suffocate. Hayes mumbled a response that was too smothered by the pillow to be audible to Felix's ears. "Speak up Love, I can't hear a thing."
Hayes reached a hand up and tapped her leg, knowing what he meant, Felix rose up so he could flip around, but instead of rolling back to where she was laying before she just sat down, resting on Hayes lower stomach. To her surprise he didn't make a joke about her crushing him to death, but just stared at her with a soft expression, hands holding the back of legs. Shifting slightly, Felix moved her hands to hold his wrists lightly.
Hayes sighed before speaking after a moment. "I'm sorry about what my Mother said today."
Sighing Felix looked at Hayes with a small smile. "You've got nothing to apologise for Hayes, honestly I'm pretty sure my own Mother has said worse."
Hayes groaned anyway and tipped his head back, closing his eyes. "She still shouldn't have said it."
Felix felt sympathy for him, she knew first hand that his mother was very strong-willed on the subject, not denying Hayes would be a good dad though. She'd seen him with his nephew as well as her own niece.
Reaching a hand forward, Felix grabbed his chin lightly and pulled down, causing him to look at her. "She just wants you to be happy Hayes."
Moving his hands to hold her waist, Hayes whispered out, "I'm happy as I am now, as we are now."
Felix pulled a slanted smile and leant down, bracing herself with her forearms, her face hovering above Hayes' own. "And what exactly are we Xavier Hayes?"
Hayes contemplated for a moment before sitting up, pulling his legs up, he held Felix between his legs and chest, her arms resting on his shoulders, but his hands remained on her waist.
"I think we are partners who take down some pretty shit people in the world. I think that we're grown adults who can make our own choices in how we spend our time and who we spend it with." Hayes moved and rested his face in the crook of Felix's neck. "What do you think we are Felix?"
"Adults, partners and something we haven't worked out."
Hayes moved his face away from her neck, resting his forehead against her own.
"Do you want to talk about?" Hayes questioned, keeping his eyes closed.
"I think I'm finished talking Xavier." She didn't use his first name often.
Hearing those words, he pushed his lips forward to meets hers. Felix's hands tightening in his hair.
