Chapter 15

"Never thought I'd see you walking down the isle Nora."

Felix cracked her knuckles before tucking some stray hair behind her ear. "Comin from the one in the actual wedding gown Sarah." Her laugh was soft, but her eyes shone with amusement.

Sarah lopped her arms with Felix, tugging her to stand for a photo. Felix was the maid of honour in Sarah's wedding, who was getting married to another work friend, Nicholas. Hayes had known Nicholas since they were fifteen, so he was the best man.

"Nicholas is going to stop breathing when he sees you." Felix fixed the veil that fell loosely around Sarah's face.

Sarah cracked a wicked grin, "Nicholas has always been the dramatic type, but I think it's later when he might lose his breath."

The ceremony was quicker than some, but beautiful nonetheless, both Hayes and Felix wiping a couple of tears away, both from laughter and from the emotion from their friends. Hayes couldn't help but embrace the fondness that pushed through his chest when he saw Felix. However, he stooped his mind from wandering too far.

The pair stood with a drink in their hands, Hayes' had his left hand rested on the small of Felix's back while she was talking with another brides-maid, he spotted Nicholas wave at him to come over. Tapping Felix hip twice before leaving, Hayes pulled his friend into a tight hug.

"How you are feeling man?" Hayes asked, watching as Nicholas' grinning face soften for a moment.

"Sky-high and happiest I've been in a long time." Nicholas tucked his hands into the pockets of his dress pants. "How're things with Felix?"

Hayes felt his face go red, but he cleared his throat and shook his head softly, "better then I hoped for Nick."

Nicholas felt himself slip back into a grin no just for his friend but at the sight of his now wife and Felix arms linked and strolling over. Slipping his hands from his pockets and around Sarah's waist, the couple turned back to Hayes and Felix.

"You two better get a dance in or I'm suing you both." Sarah gave the two a pointed look, but the grin was far from serious.

"You know as well as I Sarah, that Hayes has the dancing skills of a baby deer." Felix quirked an eyebrow but laughed when Hayes turned to her, offence etched to his face.

"I take offence to that thank you." Hayes' voice was soft, but his pitch rose.

Nicholas let out a laugh, "Hayes consider this an extra wedding present for Sarah and me, we want video footage."

Hayes grumbled and turned to Felix, "care for a dance then?"

Felix slipped her hands into his, grinning widely, "I do actually."

Hayes groaned for a moment before shoving his head under his pillow. The light seeping into the room making his already throbbing headache worse. Drinking a bit too much last night had caused karma to bite him in the ass with a hangover the next morning.

Felix leant against the doorframe of the bedroom, jumper on with a pair of sweats on. She had woken up about an hour before Hayes with the same level of headache, which she cured with a massive cup of coffee, some pain meds and shower. Slipping over the side of the bed, Felix slipped her hand under the pillow and scratched the baby hairs at the bottom Hayes' neck softly. "There's water and pain meds on the bedside table."

Her feet padded against the hardwood back towards the kitchen, where she has just finished with the dishes. Switching on the kettle to make a cup of coffee for Hayes and one for herself, Felix hummed softly to herself.

Neither was sure when it became second nature to them, but Felix didn't jump when Hayes would suddenly wrap his arms around her middle. Resting his head on the top of her neck, he murmured a good morning, squeezing Felix in a hug softly.

"How strong do you want your coffee?" Felix turned to face Hayes, who was still seemingly half asleep.

"As black as my soul." He grumbled out, his voice was broken and scratchy.

Tapping her forefinger against his nose, Felix tilted her head, "so one sugar and some milk?"

"You're evil Felix, pure evil." Hayes cracked his eyes open a bit more widely now.

Resting his head against the elevator wall, Hayes let his eyes flick to where Felix was reading through a file, how his partner was moving along well without a hint of the hangover she was probably experiencing was beyond him.

The two made their way through the main office until hey reached their own, an off-side room with their desks and whiteboards.

Hayes all but fell into his chair, logging into his desk computer to pull up the status update from Nash. Felix, however, remained standing, immediately picking up her markers and scribbling onto the board, things such as possible motives, victim identity and locations.

"Carmichael emailed me, Felix, turns out that the suspect we thought in on the triple homicide was wanted for similar murders elsewhere. According to him, it seems like this guy is going away for a lot longer than that fancy lawyer thought." Hayes was amused, Carmichael was obviously annoyed they had made the break in the case and not himself.

Felix grinned and rolled her shoulders out, "maybe I should move to Organised Crime Hayes, seems they need my help more then we thought if it took them this long to catch the idiot."

Hayes quirked an eyebrow and stood, leaning on the table for support but in front of Felix, nonetheless. "I don't think so, Felix." His voice was rough, but Felix knew he was playing.

"Why's that Xavier? Scared of the newbie partner's you'd get, couldn't handle them?"

"Not because of that Felix, I could handle that, but I'm the only one who can handle you."
