Chapter 9
"Can you not just lie and say your leg is completely healed already?" Hayes whined as he stormed into Felix's apartment.
Felix placed her mug back onto the bench, shorts showing her bandaged thigh. The sight of her dishevelled partner told her he was hating the replacement he was stuck with until she got the all-clear.
He moped his way over to the small dining table and slumped into a chair, searching for sympathy. Felix noted this and sipped her tea. "Awe poor baby can't handle a different partner." She pouted her lips and fluttered her eyelashes in mocking.
Hayes tipped his head back and groaned, cursing loudly as he did whenever he was bothered or pissed off. A habit Felix knew all too well.
"He's just so fucking dumb Felix like I asked him to pull up a suspect search and he showed me a photo array we show witnesses." Hayes placed his head in his hands, arms resting on his legs as he leant forward.
"Well considering I can take a bullet and not complain like I'm four I guess that means I've got more balls then you do if you can't handle a newbie." Felix placed a hand on her hip, the singlet she was wearing bunching up and resting at her waist. Felix watched as Hayes made eye contact with her.
"Annora" His tone was firm, but his eyes wandered to the exposed skin of her stomach, Felix knew exactly what she was doing.
However, at the sound of her first name, Felix felt her face flush, tightening her grip on the mug in her hands. Hayes, however, smirked, standing from the chair and stands in front of her. Carefully he removed the mug from her hands before tilting his head to the side.
Before she could question him though, Hayes had his hands on her waist, hoisting her up and spinning her into the door. Softly he held her, always careful but still notably strong. Felix wrapped her legs around his middle and let her head lightly thump against the door.
Moving his face against the side of her neck before pulling back to meet her eyes, he asked. "You were saying, Annora?" She might use his first name on occasion, but he hardly ever used hers. It was rare.
Her eyes scanned his face for a moment, lightly she pulled her bottom lip in with her teeth. Hayes' eyes narrowed at the action, pulling Felix closer to him as he moved one hand to open her bedroom door.
Walking them both into her room, he shut the door with a kick of his foot. Eventually, they found themselves on her bed. Hayes hovering over Felix, hair falling over his face.
Felix pulled herself up and wrapped her arms around the back of his head, hanging onto him mid-air.
With a low whisper, Felix asked, "willing to prove it Xavier or are you all talk?"
Slipping a hand from her waist around to middle of her back, Hayes lowered Felix back to the mattress. Pulling his face back, he smirked. Challenge accepted it said without actual words.

Hayes rolled onto his side the next morning, sleepily throwing an arm around Felix's waist and curling up behind her. Tucking his nose into the base of her neck, he lay with his eyes closed for a moment. Her even breathing told him Felix was still asleep and unaware. Hayes tensed for a moment when Felix rolled to face towards him, but the continuous breathing eased his mind. Curling both arms around her, Hayes snuggled closer, face now resting at the crown of her head. Felix had her nose tucked into the bottom of his throat, sub-consciously tucking an arm around Hayes' waist.
It was a peaceful silence until the bedroom door slammed open and the two were thrown from sleep. There at the foot of the bed stood Hayes' mother, a Tupperware box in her hands. A loud squeak came from Felix as she desperately reached for the sheet. Hayes himself instinctively covered his chest with his hands.
"MAMA! What are you doing here?! How did you?" Hayes reached blindly for some sort of clothing while his partner sat frozen with a sheet hiding.
"Oh hush boy, Felix gave me keys a while ago, you weren't answering your phones and so I thought I'd bring Felix some cookies!" Her cheerful tone was too much for eight in the morning, but Hayes grimaced at the realisation that his mother now knew of the other aspect of his relationship with Felix.
Haye's mother looked at both her son and his partner, who she practically considered a daughter at this point. A wide grin made its way on her face, maybe they were finally noticing what they had.
"Mrs Hayes, your welcome anytime honestly, but would you mind waiting in the kitchen?" Felix spoke softly, but by the way, she was gripping the sheet, Hayes could tell she was uncomfortable.
His Mother only smiled a little more calmly and replied as she turned to leave the room, "call me Mama dear your technically family. I love the tattoo by the way!"
The door shut and Hayes pulled a pillow over his face but peaked out to watch Felix slip out of bed in search of clothing. He could see the flushness of her cheeks. He loved his mother, but this was too much.
Rolling out bed and slipping on some pants, Hayes walked into the bathroom where Felix stood brushing her teeth. Placing a hand on the bench, Hayes stood behind her. "Felix I am so sorry about her—" he didn't finish his sentence because of the muffled snort coming from Felix.
He looked up and found her holding back her laughter to the point she was red-faced. Eventually, she let it out and spat her toothpaste. Tears were coming from both their eyes at this point as they tried to regain any sort of composure.
Felix looked at Hayes through the mirror reflections with a small smile, "your Mother is welcome anytime."
Hayes grinned and wrapped his other hand around her waist, pulling her in for a sort of hug but pressed his face into her hair, leaving a small kiss before leaving the bathroom to properly dress, because he knew his mother wouldn't wait forever.
However as he searched for the shirt from yesterday, he looked back into the bathroom and realised Felix was once again in just his shirt.
Groaning quietly, he noted that she might very well be the death of him.
