Ashlyn's POV

flash back
"Harris your in front with Walters." "Yes, sir." I get into position and get ready to strike on command. I get the target in sight and put my finger on the trigger. The Taliban member was wearing a black faces mask and black every thing. "Close in move, move." We move in and we get shot at. Bullets fly by my head as I advance I hear a thud I look behind me and see Walters who was shot in the neck lying on the ground. I go over and check his pulse there is none. I cover his face with a rag and go back to my mission. All the sudden I feel a sharp pain in my arm and leg I look down and see blood pouring out of my arm and leg. My legs give out and I drop to the ground screaming. "I've been hit." "Your okay Major keep your eyes on me, while I put a tourniquet on okay? ." I nod my head. I run my hand over my arm and thigh and see blood covering my hand. "Am I going to die?" "I hate to tell you this Major, but I really don't know the bullet went through the artery in your arm, but thankfully missed the one in your leg." "If I do tell my wife I love her and tell her to remember me by all the fun times we had and not the bad ones." "Don't say that you will survive." Their voice is muffled almost like I'm under water. "Major?" Is all I hear before I black out. I wake up in a vehicle. "Where am I?" "Your on your way to the military hospital. Because you got shot in the arm and leg." That's the last thing I remember before I black out for the second time.
End of flashback

"Ash! Ash wake up." Ali says, shaking my shoulder. I sit up quickly in the bed breathing heavily. "Ash your okay you just had another night terror." Ali says, pulling me into her and I sob into her chest. "Do you want to talk about it?" "Not really." I mumble, in to her chest. "Okay well just know I'm right here when you want to." She says, rubbing my back. "Okay, I will." "Alright let's get back to bed." She says, laying us back down in a hush tone. I snuggle up to her and put my head in her neck and she puts her arms around me making me feel safe. I feel bad for Ali because she always had to worry, about me when I was over seas if I was still alive or not. I think that if I talk to her about it. It might make us both feel better. I eventually fall asleep listening to Ali's soft breathing.

"Ash wake up we have breakfast then we are going home." "Go away. Let me sleep." I groan, and cover my head with a pillow. "That is no way to talk to your wife." I just groan again. "Fine you asked for it." "And what did I ask for?" I mumble, in to the pillow. She gets on top of me rolling me over and starts tickling me. "O-okay I'm u-up." I laugh. "I feel like a mother trying to get her teenager out of bed. Except the teenager is almost thirty and a fucking Marine." "First of all, I'm not a teenager. Second, you are way to hot to be my mother." I laugh, getting out of bed. "Well thank you. Now let's get down to breakfast before we are late. I don't know if you remember what Jill is like when someone shows up late." "Oh Trust me I do." I say, shaking the sickness out of my head and walking in to the bathroom. I wet down my hair and brush my teeth put some sweats on and slides. "Alright let's go." She commands. On the way down to breakfast I think about how I am truly lucky to have Ali. I mean she has helped me through a lot, the good, the bad and the ugly. For that I love her even more. Not paying any attention I run into the wall walking into the dinning hall and fall backwards. "Fuck! That hurt." I say, rubbing my head getting off the floor. I walk into the room and every one is dieing of laughter.

"I wouldn't be laughing if I were you." I huff, grabbing some food and sitting by my wife. "Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning." I glare at Kelley and lay my head on Ali's shoulder. "No she had a night terror in the middle of the night and it kept her up so she's tired and not in a good mood." "What was it about?" "I don't want to talk about it right now." "Well I want to help you." She stampers. "I said I don't want to talk about it!" I yell, slamming my fist on the table and Kelley cowers. "Listen Kel I'm sorry, don't take it personally. I just get really upset about them and they bring up memories I don't want to go through again." "I kinda figured. Next time warn me?" "Noted." I reply, taking my plate to the trash. Ali and I go back to her room and pack our stuff up. We change quickly and head to the airport. "Hey Al?" "Yeah?" "Can we talk when we get home?" "About what?" She asks, and I give her a pleading look as the taxi pulls up to the airport. "Oh." She knows exactly what I'm thinking. Ten minutes after we enter the airport our flight gets called. We take our sets and prepare for takeoff. I'm a little nervous to say the least considering what happened last time. "You good?" Ali asks, concerned and taking my hand in hers. "Yeah take off has always made me nervous." "Well it's a good thing you didn't join the Air Force." She laughs. We take off and Ali squeezes my hand for comfort. Once we are in the air I lean my head on Ali's shoulder and fall asleep. Over the years I have come to the conclusion that I can practically fall asleep anywhere. "Ash?" "Hmm?" "We are about to land." I sit up and rub the sleep out of my eyes. "Hello sleepy head. How did you sleep?" "Fine for being on a plane." "Well you can sleep some more when we get home." Ali says, as we touch down on the landing strip. "Who is picking us up?" "Syd." "Does she know I'm home." "Well she is about to find out." She grins, walking over to baggage claim. We grab our bags and wait for Syd to arrive. "How old is Cassius now?" "Four." "Do you think he remembers me?" "Of course he will." "Auntie!" Cass yells, wrapping his arms around my legs. "Cass don't be hugging people y-. Oh my God Ash!" "Hey Syd." I say, picking up Cass and giving Syd a hug. "I missed you Auntie." "Missed you too buddy." I say, giving him a hug. "See I told you." Ali whispers, in my ear, kisses my cheek. We get in the car and Syd drops us off at the house. "I'm glad your back Ash." "Me too." I say, giving Syd a hug and waving to Cass before she gets in her car and drives off. I take a deep breath and walk into our house for the first time in three years. "Welcome home baby." Ali says, wrapping her arms around my waist and laying her head on my chest. "It's good to be home." I yawn, putting my arms around her shoulders and kissing the top of her head before putting my head on hers. "Tired?" "Just a little." "Come on let's get you to bed." She says, leading me to the bedroom. I take my hoodie off and climb into bed with Ali. She cuddles up to me and we are both out in a matter of minutes.
