Ashlyn's POV
I just get in the water and then I hear a gun shot. I look back and see a man hovering over a woman, then takes off running. "Ashlyn!" The woman cries. If I know that voice anywhere it's Ali! I run out of the water and run to her side, all I see is red everywhere. "Holy shit Ali! Someone call 911!" I yell, and pull her Ali in my arms. "Ali, who did this to you?" I ask, holding on to her for dear life. "Brent." I barely hear her say. Brent is Ali's abusive, controlling ex-boyfriend from highschool that she dated for six months while we were broken up. I look down at Ali and see she is starting to black out. "Ali keep your eyes open the ambulance is almost here. Baby you can't leave me, I want to have kids with you and, grow old with you. Please baby just hang in there a few more minutes please." I cry, she brings her hand up to my face and caresses my cheek. "Your not getting rid of me that easy, I love you." "I love you too my beautiful warrior." I say, and kiss her head before the paramedics arrive and load her onto the gurney. Once they load her into the ambulance I try and get in but don't let me. "I'm sorry ma'am, but you can't ride with us." The paramedic scoffs. "Like hell I can that's my wife!" I yell, at him, but he ignores me and climbs in the back of the ambulance and closes the doors and they drive off. I fall to my knees sobbing. A few minutes later a set of familiar arms wrap around me. I look up and see Whitney. "A-ali got sh-shot." I cry. "I know, let's get you to the hospital. Okay?" I nod my head and stand up with her help, we get in her car and race to the hospital.
Once we arrive at the hospital I walk up to the receptionist at the front desk. "Can I help you with something sweetheart?" The receptionist asks, in a flirtatious way. "Yes actually, I'm here for Alexandra Harris." "Yes, um she is in surgery right now, but the doctor will come talk to you after he is done." "Okay, thank you." I say, and try to walk away but she grabs my wrist and says, "you know I bet you are a good sister to her. I get off my shift in a few hours, you should come get a drink with me when I'm done." "Listen Linda." I read her name tag. "Here's the thing you seem like a nice person and all and I hope you find someone nice, but Alexandra is my wife not my sister I don't even have a sister." I say, tapping my wedding ring on the plexiglass window. "I'm so sorry I should have known." She says, her face flush with embarrassment. "It's alright it's not the first time it's happened." I walk over to Whitney and she is dieing of laughter. "It's not funny." I huff. "Oh, come on Harris you have to admit it kinda was. I mean we all could us a laugh today." She laughs. "I guess your right." "Holy shit for the first time in a while you just admitted that I'm right." "Don't push it." I huff. "Sorry, sorry just trying to lighten the mood." "I appreciate it Whit, but right now I can't think straight." "Listen Ash, I know your scared." Whit begins. "But Ali is a fighter and she doesn't give up very easy. I mean her last name means warrior for God's sake and she definitely acts like one too." She said, putting an arm around me. "But I can't lose her, I just got back after being deployed for three years and now I might lose the only thing that keeps me going, now thanks to her ex who, is a controlling bastard, my whole world might come crashing down in a blink of an eye and I can't control it. I can't let that happen Whit." I vent.
"Family of Alexandra Harris?" Whitney and I stand up, and who I presume is the doctor walks over to us. "If you would Follow me please so we can talk to you some where more private." We nod and follow him to a private waiting room. "I'm doctor O'Malley, I treated your wife when she came in to the OR." "Ashlyn Harris." I replied, shaking his hand. "So how is she doc?" "I'm not going to lie to you she definitely gave us a run for our money, but we had to put her in a medically induced coma because, she was shot in the liver, there is a high risk of infection that could ultimately kill her. I highly doubt that will happen, because I can tell that she doesn't give up very easy. Luckily, the bullet did not hit her spine or she would have been paralyzed from the waist down." "C- can I see her?" "Yes, follow me." I nod and follow him to the door of Ali's hospital room. "I am going to warn you before you go in there, it is not a pretty sight to see, it's overwhelming to see your loved one hooked up to all of the machine's, but they are letting her body rest in order to make her stronger, just keep that in mind when you see her." He informed, with a small smile. "Thank you, doctor for saving her." "Your welcome, but I'm only doing my job." He smiles, before walking way. "Do you want more to go in with you?" Whit asks. "If you don't mind I kinda want to go in by myself first." "Okay, I'll be out here if you need me." "Thanks Whit, I appreciate it." I say giving her a hug. "Here goes nothing." I sigh before opening the door.
