Chapter 29: 'Home'

I woke up in an unfamiliar setting. Then I remembered I had stayed the night at Kyle's because I didn't want to go back home just yet.

I hopped out of his bed & walked downstairs. I stood at the bottom of the stairs because I heard talking. It was only Kyle on the phone.

"Calm down babe, she's just a friend from high school" he reassured who I'm guessing was his girlfriend because he said babe

"No. We didn't. She slept in my bed & I slept on the couch" he rolled his eyes

"Well I wasn't gonna be a complete dick & make her sleep on the couch. I'm actually a gentle man if you don't recall"

I could hear small mumbles coming from the speaker of his phone.

"She said she wouldn't be staying for long. But I'm not gonna kick her out" he sighed

"Okay. I will. I love you too. Bye baby" he hung up

I slowly entered the living room area & walked toward the kitchen.

"Morning" he smiled at me

"Good morning" I rubbed my eyes & smiled back

"I have to go in for work but you're welcome to stay here & help yourself" he offered

"Actually, I was thinking about going back over to my place. Thank you though" I smiled

"Anytime Ronnie" he came & hugged me

I was cautious about it at first but then remembered he was just on the phone with his girlfriend so I hugged him back.

"Well I'm gonna go. Good luck" he said pulling out of the hug

"Thank you again" I spoke softly

"Bye Ronnie. Call me if you need anything" and with that he closed the door

I walked into the kitchen making myself some breakfast. I had some oatmeal with fresh fruit & a glass of milk. I cleaned up after myself & headed back upstairs.

I took a quick shower & got dressed. I checked my phone to see if I had any missed calls or texts from Joseph, but there was nothing. I'm not surprised actually. He was probably out all night drinking then came back home & crashed. I'm sure he's still asleep right now.

I walked back into the bathroom to do my hair & makeup. I could feel it coming up my throat so I leaned over the toilet quickly & puked. I got a heat flash so I took a seat & ran my fingers under some cold water. Afterward I brushed my teeth & took some Ibuprofen.

When I walked back out of the bathroom I gathered my things up & wrote a note to Kyle.

Dear Kyle,

Thank you so much for everything. I never told you why I had come over here & I feel really guilty about it. So I guess I'll just write it out for you. I know it's really shitty but whatever. So..after you had broke into my house to warn me about Joseph, I stayed with him anyways. He told me he would never intentionally hurt me. That he loved me. I loved him back as well & I couldn't just leave him. Joseph proved his love to me. So I stayed with him & he eventually proposed to me. I'm sorry I didn't take your advice but I felt I was doing the right thing. Anyways, we had gotten in a fight about him leaving for tour. He was scheduled to be gone for 4 months & I didn't want to be around him anymore. We argued & I decided I couldn't take it. So I left. I had been having terrible mood swings & it was getting worse. I know that calling you was probably really risky but I did it anyway. I had no one else to stay with. Thank you for always being there for me even though I'm such a shitty person. I'm sorry if you're reading this thinking that I'm a bitch but I couldn't keep it from you. You were bound to find out anyways. Again I'm so sorry. I'm heading back home now to see Joseph. I need to fix things with him. I love him so much. Thank you Kyle.

I placed the note under the lampost by his bed & picked up my stuff. I walked down the stairs to the front door. I turned around one last time to say goodbye even though Kyle wasn't there.

I opened the door & walked out of Kyle's apartment, closing the door behind me. I started toward my car opening the door. I got in & sat silently for a few minutes.

I started the car & plugged my phone into the aux chord so I could play my own music because the radio fucking sucked. All they did was play the same 7 songs over & over again. It was complete bullshit.

I collected myself once more before shifting prom park to reverse. I backed out of Kyle's driveway slowly. I then started heading toward my own home. My home where hopefully Joseph was waiting for me.

I pulled into the driveway. I saw another unfamiliar car in our driveway, but I didn't think much of it. It was obviously just one of Joseph's friends that came to party with him last night. I sat in the car for a while. Thinking. My fingers constantly playing with my ring.

When I finally had enough courage to enter my own home, I opened my car door & closed it slowly.

I made my way up the pathway toward our front door. I took my house key out of my bag & placed it inside the key hole.

I was quiet in opening & closing the front door because I wanted to surprise Joseph.

I made my way toward the staircase. Slowly going step by step. When I reached the top I looked around taking in the familiar scent of my home that I had missed so much.

I walked toward our bedroom door opening it slowly. I shut it behind me & tiptoed toward our bed.

I kneeled down in front of Joseph & gently stroked his cheek. He was still sleeping soundly. I could smell scotch coming from his partly opened lips.

"Joseph" I whispered

He moved slightly then stopped. The bed covers next to him didn't stop though. I stood up slowly.

I then found myself staring at a blonde with her makeup smeared. Her hair all tangled. Her arms spread out across the bed with one arm slung over Joseph.
