The Choices We Make

Chapter 2

"Would you beautiful ladies like to try to throw a dart at the lucky board? If you hit a prize target then you get a free gift, but if you hit a question mark then we will ask you to solve a problem?" Tor says 

Suzi smiles at him and takes a dart and he passes one to Win. Suzi throws the dart and it lands on a question mark. Win aims and gets a prize choice "not fair, you always win" Suzi gripes "hence my name" Win chuckles as she picks out a purple bath bomb.  

I laugh with her "I made those they are really good, and contain lavender and oatmeal to soothe the mind and your skin" I tell her.  

She smiles and nods her head at me. "Hey, sorry I'm late I couldn't get away on time, the stall was surrounded" Cody says coming up and slinging his arm around my shoulders. 

"Cody this is Suzi, from my, home-town and her friend Win" I introduce them. 

"Cody, ladies, I know the pleasure is all yours" he jokes earning a dig in his ribs from my elbow. 

"Ignore him, his blood sugars must be low. Here I've bought you some lunch" I say. "Great thanks babe" he says taking the bag and sitting behind the stall.  

"You have to solve this question" Tor reminds Suzi. She groans but takes the paper from his hand. "Crap what's this, it's just a load of numbers, letters and things?" Suzi moans Win and I look over her shoulder.  

I grin knowing that there is no why she will know the answer. "-3 to the power of 4 divided by 2" Win says surprising me and Tor. 

"You're going to join the science club, right?" Tor says holding up a sign-up sheet.  Win takes it and smiles "of course" she grins back at him 

"I like your glasses" he says making her blush. "Those glasses are from some anime character she is into" Suzi says 

"I know, I follow the same one" Tor says not taking his eyes off of Win. 

"She is a real nerd" Suzi adds and I frown at her "I love nerds" Tor says still not taking his eyes off of Win.  

Suzi stamps her foot and I laugh "I see you're still jealous of people, who get more attention than you" I say she scowls at me. 

"I'm the pretty one" she pouts "you need to work on being pretty on the inside too" I tell her and then get behind the stall and start to work.  It's hot and the sweat is dripping down my back

"Hey Lance, Suzi wants me to show her where the gym is" Cody says and all I've got time for is to nod at him.

Finally, the day is over and the stall has been taken down. Cody and Suzi walk back and help carry the remaining boxes to the store room. "What do you want to eat?" Cody asks 

"I'm beat man, I'm just going to go back and eat in my room before falling into a deep, deep sleep. I'll see you tomorrow" I tell them a little pissed that Cody has managed to avoid doing any real work or being of any help.

"Okay, see you tomorrow" Cody says "Lance come with us, we haven't had a chance to catch up yet?" Suzi says "I'm beat we didn't have enough hands helping out" I tell them before turning and walking towards the car park.  

Cody runs up and grabs my arm "hey, I'm sorry Suzi wanted me to show her around" he apologises.  I just look at him as I'm really tired and feeling a little dizzy. I manage to nod and he kisses my cheek "see you tomorrow, I promise to have a shower before coming around" he says as he runs back to Suzi.  

As I walk back to the car my head is banging, so much that I'm sure someone could hear it. I stagger a little and have to put out my hand and grab a lamp post to steady myself. 

"Hey, man you okay?" someone asks me, I move my head a little to quickly and I get a glimpse of strong arms as they catch me and the world goes black. 

"Hey, man can you just help me get you from the car?" I hear him utter, I try and put some strength into my legs but it doesn't last long. I feel someone putting me onto their back. 

"It's a good job I live next to you man or I'd have to take you back too my place" I hear him say "sorry" I slur feeling drunk or something. 

"You've done to much. You'll feel better once we get inside with the air conditioning" he says. I feel myself being propped up against a wall then a hand goes into my pocket for my key fob to open the door. 

I'm placed on the bed and black out again. "you've got a good body for a science major" I hear him say and feel a little better as I feel a cool cloth run over my burning flesh.  

I sleep again and wake up when I feel myself being propped up and a straw being placed between my lips. 

"Drink some water and then you can sleep again.  I've put the medicine in the water" my saviour says. 

I drink and moan as the cool water hits my dry throat. My eyes flutter open as he lays me back down again "thank you" I say and he smiles "what beautiful eyes you have" I tell him as I gaze into the most beautiful grey colour eyes I've ever seen. 

He chuckles "goes with my big ears and teeth all the best to look, hear and eat you with." I laugh with him and then feel my eyes closing again "sorry sleepy" I mumble before I allow sleep to take me again. 

I wake to the sun coming from the window and banging on the door. I groan as I sit up and stumble to the door "what?" I ask as I throw open the door "wow! You look like shit man" Cody says pushing by me. 

"Thanks man, I was ill yesterday" I say "who the bloody hell is that?" Cody shouts and I turn and walk towards the sitting room. 

"I look into sleepy grey eyes and smile "he got me home safe, he's my neighbour" I explain.

"Well I'm here now so, he can go" Cody rudely says "Cody?" I warn before turning to my neighbour "would you like to have some breakfast with us?" I ask him "no it's alright I have to get ready for a shoot anyway.  Glad to see you up on your feet.  Please be careful in future you pushed yourself too hard?" he says as he gets up off the sofa and heads to the door. 

"I'll buy you a meal sometime in thanks" I tell him and he nods and waves as he heads out the door. "Right what are we having for breakfast?" Cody asks 

"Whatever your going down to buy is fine.  I need to have a shower and take some more medicine?" I tell him. I listen to him grumble as he leaves the condo.  

I feel a little better once I've had a shower and got dressed in clean shorts and Tee.  I change the sheets and then lay down to wait for Cody.  I must have fallen asleep again because I wake up to hear Cody tapping away on the computer playing a game. 

"Did you leave me something to eat?" I ask rubbing my eyes. "Yeah, it's just got to be re-heated" he says I walk to the kitchen to heat up the food. 

When I see the table and sofa "Cody have you eaten all those snacks?" I ask "you were asleep for hours" he complains I check the time "I was a sleep for a little over an hour" I correct him "it felt longer" he gripes.  

I take the heated food to the table and start to eat. "Shit, you didn't shower, did you?" I moan as his smell hits my nose "I did but I'd run out of shower gel so it was just water" he tells me.

"Please go and take a shower and use my soap this time?" I tell him wrinkling up my nose.  He sniffs at his T-shirt and wrinkles his nose in disgust "yeah, sorry man" he says and gets up to go into the bathroom.  

I hear a knock on the door and go to answer it.  When I open the door, no-one is there but a bag is hanging from the door handle with a note attached. 

"Made some soup it's good for you 307" I smile at his thoughtfulness and take the bag inside. I taste the soup and it's really good, before I know it's all gone. 

I eat the food that Cody bought and then wash the plates. Cody comes out wearing a clean T-shirt and shorts. "All clean Momma" he jokes "as if I'd be your mother" I mutter. My phone rings and it's an unknown number I answer it and Suzi is on the other end.
