⠀⠀⠀
CHAPTER SIX;
❝ THE UNFORTUNATE ! ❞⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀A month passed and the only thing that was constantly on Manon's mind was Regulus. He was unexpectedly sexy and came at her strong that night, and had left her scattered all over the place. Right when she whispered his name, he smirked, nipped her ear lobe and vanished from sight. The only thing that lingered behind was his scent of sea water, vanilla and cold winds.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀Manon didn't like this, she didn't like the changes, she was struggling to accept it. Her heart and mind were slipping out of her control and control was what she had mastered over the years — and that was what was being unmastered by her.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀"Okay, what the fuck did Black do this time?" snapped Charlotte when she lost Manon to her thoughts for like the millionth time.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀The said girl raised one perfect, raven eyebrow, "Nothing. Why do you ask?"
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀"You've been out of it ever since that night."
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀"What night Lottie?"
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀"You know bloody well what night I'm talking about," Charlotte rolled her eyes.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀"What if I said nothing happened?"
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀"Bullshit. Black singles you out and nothing happens? Yeah, and I'm your brother's life long love."
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀With a great sigh, Manon let loose and told her best friend all that happened on that night. How she stupidly said his name, his goddamn full name, and gave his ego a quantum boost, all of the words he said in an undeniably sexy voice and also, how much she wanted him.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀After a beat in silence, Charlotte opened her mouth again, "Okay, so I diagnose you with the Regulus Black Virus. Symptoms include: lust, love or both, unable to forget or stop thinking about the Black's youngest, and/or the belief that he can be saved. We call the patients, The Unfortunate. Welcome to the club. Your president is Melantha Coltrane."
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀"What the fuck, Damiens? You're a definite nut case," Manon snorted and nonchalantly played with her hair, choosing to again disregard the idea before even thinking about it.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀Charlotte rolled her eyes, "No honey, that's you. When are you going to admit that you fancy him, hmm? It better be before I die, Potter."
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀Manon blew out a long sigh, then planted her face on her crossed arms, on the library table. The pair was seated at a secluded library corner that was seemingly reserved for them— no one sat there in their absence nor presence. It was like their own little world, surrounded by tall bookcases carrying books that had memories of all their past readers absorbed in their yellowed pages.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀The library table had one of its width side against the wall and above it was a tall and big window. The girls had placed a few small vases in that area of the table. One contained white gardenias, another had several dark red roses and baby breath flowers — these two vases were on the right side. On the left was a vase containing light pink peonies. Behind the peonies, on the window sill, was a woodsy scented candle with a hint of lavender and geranium. It all set the mood for deep and long conversations or just silent reading for the Ravenclaw girls.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀Manon went ahead and lit the candle, and watched the blue color of the sky fold into purples, pinks and oranges as the sun decided to retire for the day. Sunset and its aftermaths were Manon's favourite portions of the day, because that's when activity ceased and people shut up and all was silent.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀Finally, after much thought and reflection, Manon drummed her fingers on the table top and answered her patiently waiting partner.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀"I suppose I do," she started and ignored Charlotte's gleeful smile, "But I also know he's no good for me. He can wreck me with a flick of his wrist, Lottie. I'm not afraid of love nor am I hesitant of delving into it, I'm afraid of falling when on the other side Regulus Black stands."
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀Manon turned towards Charlotte who was now watching her with sorrowful and understanding eyes that trailed down her cheeks. That's when Manon realized she was crying. Immediately, she wiped the salty water drops off her skin and once again, set her eyes to the sky of dusk, now without any sun.
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀"Because I know the side effects of loving him will be catastrophic and so will be the aftermath. I won't remain whole and neither will I recover, and learn to carry on after he's gone."
