CHAPTER SIXTEEN;
❝ OF RECONCILIATIONS ! ❞⠀⠀⠀WITH REGULUS PLEASING words in her mind, Manon put more effort into her appearance, the next day. Part of her was excited while the other half felt guilty because of Violet. She had just passed acceptance of her death but there was a big job of rearranging and sorting through her heart, mind and life, and understand what she was feeling. Still, she blocked it all out. She'd find out what she was feeling this way too, though she'd probably end up in more hurt and pain, she'd rather go in for a way that she knew rather than research which may take indefinite time.
⠀⠀⠀Regulus Black. He was so peculiar to her. Acting all tough and mighty, he did bully others verbally but didn't discriminate them on blood status, either looked like he was fresh out of an intimate meeting or had just directly come from a conversation with Orion and Walburga Black. He acted like a perfect and sophisticated Slytherin, despite his appearance.
⠀⠀⠀There were times Manon either wanted to punch his nose in or either slam him against the wall or get slammed against the wall by him. His insults, his smirks, his lingering stare and the bickering he got Manon involved in. Regulus was such a confusing puzzle. She didn't know if she wanted to determinedly sort him out or give a single attempt, but she was drawn in nonetheless.
⠀⠀⠀Eyes flickering over her skirt — she'd switched the regular, plain gray one to a plaid one that fitted her curves subtly, she gave herself a satisfied smile. Manon had braided her hair in a French one decorated with a pearl accessory, put on light make up and a delicate necklace to bring some attention to her neck. Her high socks allowed an attractive glimpse of skin to show, between them and the rim of her skirt and she'd worn black heels.
⠀⠀⠀Manon picked up her bag, holding her Transfiguration textbook in her hands for a quick revision at breakfast, because Minerva McGonagall was a woman who could ask them about their previous lecture whenever she wanted, she strode out the dormitory room. Her friends were sitting in the Common Room, waiting for her while simultaneously chatting away.
⠀⠀⠀They quietened significantly when they saw her walk in. Her appearance didn't surprise them but the small smile on her lips definitely did; their almost frozen stances and raised eyebrows showed their shock.
⠀⠀⠀"Good morning," Manon greeted casually, making eye contact with them all, individually.
⠀⠀⠀Charlotte was the first to answer. "Good morning, indeed," she drawled, slowly rounding up towards Jeremy, "Terence, did you put something in her coffee last night? She can't just wake up smiling after like a week."
⠀⠀⠀"Trust me, I was thinking of doing something but I couldn't think of it and wow," Jeremy rambled, animatedly running his hand through his dark chocolate brown hair.
⠀⠀⠀"Shut up, Terence. You're decreasing my breakfast time," Manon retorted. When met with hesitant and doubtful stares, Manon groaned, realizing that she would need to give an explanation.
⠀⠀⠀"Look, I felt bad for yesterday. Oh, by the way, I'm sorry Kate. It's understandable for you to lose a lil' bit of your cool after having to deal with my cranky self. But, as I was saying, I thought I was trying before and I was, but I wasn't pushing myself up and I realized this after our brief exchange in the morning, yesterday. For the sake of the team, I've got to try harder and I'm going to do that, even if sometimes I want to crumble down against the wall of the empty Astronomy Tower and have a breakdown. I'm Manon Potter, not one of those troublesome, annoying damsel-in-distress protagonists."
⠀⠀⠀" 'Attagirl!" Lucas clapped, jumping in for a big hug. The boy for six feet one and his broad physique was enough to make even the Slytherins feel intimidated but he was literally just a harmless cinnamon roll who secretly loved the colour pink.
⠀⠀⠀Feeling genuinely joyous after days, Manon couldn't help but drag them all in the hug.
⠀⠀⠀"Honestly, those four Gryffindor crackheads have got nothing on us," Charlotte suddenly declared right into Kate's ear who kicked her hard in the shin in retaliation, breaking the group hug.
⠀⠀⠀As Lucas laughed his ass off, Charlotte hissed in pain and got involved in a heated argument with a pissed off Kate, and Jeremy just stared at the mess, looking like a distressed mother of seven toddlers, Manon couldn't help but smile widely. She could just see Violet switching between laughing with Lucas and getting stressed out with Jeremy.
⠀⠀⠀Here or not in physical being, she'd always be a part of them, looking over and laughing with them behind a veil up above, waiting for the day they would all be six again. Just the way they all liked it.
