As the door slammed behind her. Her words ran through my head.
" I love you, dad. And if you love me back, stop asking.
My questions are not going to get answered by her.
My daughter is hurting and I can't help her. This rocks my core.
After all these years, all of the times I didn't show up, because I believed that my wife and daughter were dead.
Now that she is back in my life.
All I want to do is protect her. That's all I ever wanted to do.
For me to do that I must know the truth. Her scars that I saw. The lines of pain that were imprinted on her back.
Enrages me. The person who could do that to her deserves to die.
I walk out of the bedroom door and see Dembe standing confused.
"Raymond, what was that about?"
I looked out at the wall-sized window "Sam, that was Sam."
I turned cautious of the knock at the door.
Dembe walks over and looked through the peephole.
The door fly's off the hedges hitting Dembe and knocking him to the floor.
I reach for my gun.
Fog booms in the room. I feel more than one person grab me and handcuff me. I drop my gun unable to see. All I can see are figures in this cloud.
A person puts a thick black bag on my head. With a person on either side of me, they walk me out to the street and into a van.
I take any and all information about my surroundings. The sounds, the movement of the van.
The van stops after what seems like an hour.
I hear the back doors open. The person sitting in the back of the van with me grabs my arm and leads me into a building
I hear someone speaking in the distance.
"Sit". It was a young woman's voice. Someone pulls me down on a wooden chair. I could feel the splintering pieces on the tips of my bounded fingers. When the bag is pulled off my head the first thing I see is a young girl.
She looked like Sam's age. I look around it was a big empty room. Like a warehouse.
"Hello Red, it's so nice to finally meet you." Her voice was empty only words no emotion. I couldn't read her.
"Why am I here?"I respond to her.
"Someone please uncuff him," she looked up at one of the very muscular men in the corner. "You are here because of Sam."
She looked at me. The man walked over to me and took off the handcuffs. I put my hands on my lap.
"What about Sam." I'm calm mimicking the lack of emotion as the girl standing in front of me.
"Her life is in danger. Did Sam tell you about her past?"
Her life. She knows about her past.
"No."
"Figures, she was always stubborn. She is probably going to kill me but I will tell you. I'm Dee, Sam and I met when we were kids in the foster system. We only had each other. No one ever cared about us. For a few years, she was called troubled. Our foster mother was a junky. She sold Sam to an underground trafficking ring. She was there for a few years. When she was ten she was bought by a man. He told her she could have a better life. She told him that she couldn't leave me behind.
His name was Simon, we really didn't know anything about him other than his first name. We were elated to think that someone wanted us. He was a kind man. He took care of us, educated us. About a year after that we went in to combat training. I went along with it but Sam wanted to know why.
He said that we had to wait before he tells us. We did combat, gun, resistance, bombs, and software training. This type of training was based on military training but it was unconventional.
When we were thirteen he told us that he was going to die soon. It nearly tore us apart. He was our family. He also told us that one of us would be taking his place as the command.
He ran a military operation called cobra. We were training to be assassins for the military. Sam was the best at everything so I wasn't surprised when he chose her.
Everyone was so happy for her.
Everyone but Jackson. He was Simond's, right-hand man. Jackson was hoping that he would be taking his place. He couldn't understand that he would be working with a fifteen-year-old. So when Simon died instead of Sam taking over, Jackson paid some of the men in the organization to kill Sam.
I found out and told her. That planed failed. He had another in the works. He had many on his side. They all thought that she was too young and should be canceled. Jackson didn't do that though.
He told her that if she didn't listen to what him. If she had ever disobeyed him that he would kill everyone she has ever loved. I didn't see her after that for a while. I tried to find her countless times. Last time I saw Sam she was skinny, weak, and dying.
I don't know what he did to her but it turned the strongest person I knew to someone I didn't recognize.
He is back and he is looking for her."
