What Matters Most

It was a new day for Boruto. He had taken the day off from school with the exception of his mother and father. After what had happened the other day it was only right for him to be given enough time for him to think about the situation. He noticed that during the night his father would still come home to sleep on the couch. Boruto was under the impression that his father would be staying at Sakura's house since they're together, but yet he's not living with her.

He didn't quite understand why he did this so he kept his distance from him in the house whenever it was just the two of them. It was dark out. Boruto was laying down on his bed still thinking about his old man and his mom. Then he heard a knock on the door and asked who was knocking. It was his mother.

Hinata: May I come in Boruto?

Boruto: Sure.

She opens the door and closes it. Boruto then sits up right and his mother sits down with him.

Hinata: Are you...alright honey?

Boruto: Yeah..though I should be asking you that question mom.

Hinata: Why's that?

Boruto: after what happened that day. After what dad said to us. Why is he still sleeping here?

Hinata: Well....when you went to your room and when Sakura left Naruto wanted something. He begged me to let him continue living here until he's heard your true feelings.

Boruto: Why...why do you still insist on helping him mom? Don't you care about what he did to us?

Hinata: Honey....your father is someone that's truly special to me. As a child he didn't really have anyone to rely on. He reminded me of myself when I was a kid. I was always very shy and timid. It was hard for me to have a conversation with anyone, especially your father.

Boruto: So...you're telling me you forgive him?

Hinata: Boruto...I know what you're thinking right now. Of course what he did to turn this family into what it is now is certainly unforgivable. You have every right to think the way your thinking right now, but for me to hate someone because of their feelings they can't control is something I can't do.

Boruto: Even after all of that.....you still care about him?

Hinata: Silly huh?

Boruto: I don't know....

Hinata: Boruto....whatever your heart tells you to do. Just know that your father will always love you, and so will I.

She kissed his son's forehead and left the room. Boruto sat there. Thinking about what his mother had to say. Then looked at the old picture of him and his family. They seemed really happy. He was wondering where the old days had gone.

It was already dark out. He decided to take a little walk outside. Hinata of course told him to not stay out too long, so he made sure to make his short little adventure a quick one. He then made it to the village park that was dedicated to the first hokage Hashirama Senju.

As he made his way into the park he noticed someone sitting on a bench by themselves. It was Sakura. Boruto was surprised to see her out late at night. Boruto didn't really want to converse with her after what happened. He was about to turn until Sakura already noticed him.

Sakura: Oh. Hey Boruto.

At that point it was already too late for Boruto to walk away. So he then decided to converse with her.

Boruto: Hey Sakura.

Sakura: What are you doing out here so late at night?

Boruto: I could ask you the same thing.
