Jin didn't know what to think.
His father had been on a mission to gather more information about the Fyres. Jin hadn't known that. When he was little, Jin had thought that his father had been a merchant. At least, that is what he had been told. He remembered living in an extravagantly furnished house. He didn't remember if he was happy there. He must have been.
Gradually, his parents had started to argue, fight. Vases were broken, mirrors shattered. Jin would lock himself in his room, curled up in a ball, flinching at the sounds emanating from the study. It was during one of these fights that the noise suddenly stopped. Jin lifted his head, curious as to the absence of the sound of breaking china and cold voices meant to hurt. A pair of feet thundered up the stairs, Jin heard his father shout something illegible. His door burst open and in came his mother - eyes glowing red. Jin had just glimpsed a flash of silver in her hands before his father had yanked her out of the room. There was more shouting but they made no sense to Jin.
Her eyes.
Jin shuddered at the thought. The hatred he had seen in them still haunted him. That was the moment he knew his mother wasn't a normal human. That was the day he found out that his parents were wizards.
"Your father," Namjoon's voice jolted him back to reality, "posed as a mortal to find out more about the Fyres."
"Why a mortal?" Taehyung asked.
"Well," Namjoon answered, "You see, Roselia witches - that is, witches from Earth, can only mate with wizards. But, this isn't the case with Fyres. They can bare the children of mortals and wizards alike."
"Is that why they're here?" Jin asked slowly.
"That is one of our theories," Namjoon replied, "We think that the place that the Fyres came from used to have male wizards too. But for some reason they started dying off. So, their population started dwindling. They started searching for other planets - universes - to settle down and to recover their population.
"You're father posed as a mortal to get close to the Fyres," Namjoon continued, "To figure out their powers, their origins and their secrets."
"And did he?" asked Jin.
"Yes," Namjoon said, simply.
Taehyung and Jin waited for Namjoon to continue, but he didn't. He seemed to be waiting for one of them to speak.
"How did he do it?" Jin broke the silence.
"He married your mother."
Jin was confused. How would his father find out about the Fyres by marrying his mother? Unless-
"My mother was a Fyre?" Jin asked, apprehensively.
"Yes," Namjoon replied softly. He seemed to sense Jin's unease.
"Your father could think of no other way," Namjoon explained, "Your mother is one of the most powerful Fyres. She is a member of the Fyrian Council, that is the council formed by the Fyres here on Earth. Your father married her and soon after you were born."
"Wait," Taehyung interrupts, "If both of his parents are magical, how are is not a wizard?"
"Well," Namjoon pauses, "Some children of magical parents are born without any powers. It's perfectly normal."
"What did my father find?" Jin asked. He wanted to know more about his father - his parents.
"We don't know," Namjoon replied, "After your mother found out the truth about your father, she tried to kill you two. They fought, naturally. The magic that they used was so powerful that it destroyed your house."
