I was frozen into shock for a second. I'd been in plenty situations where a gun was fired, but I hadn't been expecting this. I thought the Fly was done with murdering people. Plus, I had been so focused on confessing to Jack.

In the corner of my eye, I saw a body fall to the ground and a champagne glass fell to the ground, the glass shattering as soon as it hit the hard tile floors. People began to panic, screams filled the air and everyone was trying to run away from the scene. By that time, my instincts took over and I whipped out my knife.

Jack already had his gun out. I searched for where the shot had come from. Everyone seemed to be scattering, no one staying to watch the chaos in terrifying pleasure. Jack watched my back as I went towards the dead body.

It was a lady. She wore a black dress with a sparkling circle on the side of her hip. Her caramel hair was drawn up and pinned into a messy bun on top of her head. She wore jewelry, all made of diamonds, which made me have a good guess that she was wealthy.

The bullet seemed to have been fired through her back above her left hip. That where the most blood was soaking out. I felt her neck for a pulse. It was faint, but still there."Jack,"I gasped, pulling behind me for his jacket."She's still alive."

He then bent down next to me. I held my knife in front of her nose, and it fogged up below her nostrils. The breathing was light, but still there. "What do we do?"Jack asked."We can't perform surgery right here!"

"Call an ambulance!"I ordered him. I felt so helpless, there was nothing I could do. I may have a knife, but I we can't perform surgery in the middle of a government building. I mean, we could, but we'd probably mess her up more. The bullet had gone through her back and was nearly about to pop out through her stomach. "Hey, stay with us."I could've been talking to a ghost as I hit her face. There was really no point in doing that, she'd already lost consciousness.

He dialed nine-one-one, and I watched the woman for any signs of...anything. She was out cold. Suddenly, I saw movement in the corner. The shadowy corner where I swore I'd seen a figure lurking in the darkness. (Holy shit my thoughts are dramatic.)

Except there was definitely someone there. Either that, or the wall was on fire. A small stream of smoke, hard to spot, floated towards the ceiling. "Jack,"I whispered."Stay here and watch her."

Jack protested, but I slowly stood up and walked up the side stairs. I tried to look like I hadn't seen them. But they must've taken a guess, as they dashed off towards...I don't know where. I began to chase after him. I was losing him, and these heels were slowing me down. I slowed down so I could slip them off ( I'm the most badass Cinderella ever). As I did so, I grabbed the knife out of my shoe.

"Cole!"Jack called after me.

Dammit, I thought to myself. I wouldn't be able to try out my new tranquilizer dart gun. I was definitely going faster, the man was just a little faster than I was. He ran straight into the wall, pushing an elevator button as he collided. Immediately the doors parted and he darted inside, punching the buttons.

As the doors closed, I began to sprint. It wasn't impossible to get there in time. But the doors were closing. As the doors shut, I slammed into them. I pulled the doors open with my fingertips, it was so slow. The door was open just a slit, but I could still see the man inside.

He had two different colored eyes, an icy blue and gray. He had dark messy, greasy hair curling over his temples. In the action, when I was so busy trying hard to pull the doors open, he lifted a gun. Before I knew it, there was a bullet in my shoulder.

I yelped and fell back, the doors slamming shut. With a shaking breath, I looked at my shoulder. A dark scarlet was already staining my beautiful lace dress. Gritting my teeth, I thought, Well, hell, it was gonna happen sometime.

There were little dings as the elevator went up. Up. I searched for another way up. Over to the side was to big double doors with a sign that said "STAIRWELL" in big red lettering. I pushed the heavy doors open and took off up the stairs.

As I jumped up three at a time, I tried to think of a plan. It was hard, with all the adrenaline racing through my veins, but I managed to form a perfectly logical plan.

I'd go to the top floor, on the roof, first of all that's where I was suspecting he was going. If not, then...never mind, there really wasn't a plan B.

I ran up the stairs, my bare feet pounding on each of the steps. I could feel the cold metal and the little indentations with each jump. I noticed as I raced, that the stairs were hardly used. No paint was chipped off, the shiny metal was still gleaming.

Before I knew it, I was at the top floor. There was a covering over the entrance to the roof. I climbed onto the railings and unlatched the roof covering. I then climbed up, nearly feeling sick as my shoulder screamed with agony.

When I was finally of my feet, I grimaced as I gently rubbed my shoulder. This was not good, it was slowing me down and I wasn't sure where The Fly went. Suddenly, I heard an elevator ding, so ducked down, squatting on my toes. I heard a slight shuffling, which meant the Fly was walking quietly on purpose. But then that broke into a run.

I got up and chased after him. I felt the adrenaline pulsing through my veins, almost unlike any other rush before. But it didn't make sense, he was heading straight for the ledge. He could be trying to trick me and throw me off the roof, I thought. It was worth the risk if I could just catch him.

I sped up, and began to outstretch my hand. I didn't realize how close the the ledge we had been, but he gave a quick look back at me, and then dived off the roof.I tried to slow down, but it was too late. The heels of my feet slipped off the roof, and down I went as well.

Using my lightning-fast reflexes a spy must have, I spun around as I was falling and grabbed something. My fingertips dug into the cement, giving me a temporary hold but also tearing the skin on my fingers. I looked up. I had just managed to grab onto a windowsill before I fell to my death.

Remembering my mission again, I painfully twisted my head to see behind me. The Fly. Where was he? Jumping off that roof would be suicide, and that's exactly what he did. Surely he wouldn't do that just to get me out here. I focused my eyes at a little movement towards the ground.

There he was. As he had fallen (I assumed), he had pulled at some sort of trigger, and a hang glider was released. So now he was safely gliding towards the setting sun. I cursed, then looked up at my hands again. My hands were really starting to hurt, not to mention the agonizing pain in my shoulder.

I tried to lift myself up, but just hanging here was sapping my strength. Plus, the ledge was too far up, I had fallen a few feet before grasping into this ledge. I couldn't hang here forever, just waiting for someone to come help me. Hell, I could probably only stay here for a few more minutes, if that.

My fingers were growing sweaty, making me slip. The excruciatingly painful bullet wound in my shoulder became to much, and I dropped it. This made it even harder to hold on. Sweat was gathering on my brow. I couldn't hold on much longer.

I squeezed my eyes shut."I'm sorry, Jack." I whispered.

I let go.
