who knew himiko was such a hypocrite?

lowercase story.♤♡◇♧
himiko glanced over the edge, it didn't look too far down. she started to wonder if she wouldn't die immediately. what if she was just laying there, broken and bloody for hours?
she shook her head. she had already left the note on her nightstand, it was only a matter of time before Tenko and angie found it.
she had to do it before then.
taking a deep breath, she hopped over the railing. a chill ran down her spine, her toes already hanging over the edge. this was it.
she had put it off for a while, keeping the feelings inside, letting them fester. it got to be too much, she had to do something. everyone had their ways, this was hers. it would all be over soon.
she held out her foot experimentally, dangling it over the edge. the wind picked up, pushing on her foot. her hair flew into her face and she squinted. she always hated the wind, but somehow she felt she'd miss it.
whatever.
just as himiko was about to take the final step, she heard the door to the roof slam open. she released a sigh, turning. she was expecting to see tenko, or angie, maybe even kaede. but what she saw instead shocked her.
kokichi oma.
his hair was messy and his eyes downcast. it was only then himiko remembered that she hadn't seen him in a couple of days. he must have locked himself in his room.
she wondered for a second if he was there to stop her, but she quickly shook it away. there was no way kokichi cared that much about her.
holding her foot out again, she hesitated. why was she hesitating?
the timing was perfect. tenko was out shopping with angie, kaede, and tsumugi. most of the boys were in class or studying in their rooms. nobody would know.
so why wouldn't she jump?
himiko wrote it off as self-preservation. she wanted this. this was her solution, right?
someone appeared beside her, sitting on the railing. she looked over to see kokichi staring at her.
"so... you too?"
"yeah..."
there was silence.
kokichi dropped down from the railing, his shoes thumping on the ground slightly. "how long have you been up here?"
"i don't even know."
it was true. she hadn't kept track of time since freshmen year. she didn't care if she was late to class anymore, she wasn't trying to pass anyway.
the boy just nodded, kicking out his leg similarly to how himiko did, "yeah, i've been thinking about this all week."
his honesty surprised her, "why?"
"why do you think?"
there could be plenty of reasons. he seemed happy enough, but himiko knew they always do. maybe he got tired of the distrust? but he was the one who lied in the first place.
she opened her mouth to speak again, only to see that his eyes were closed. he was looking up and breathing deeply, like he was preparing for something. his foot still hung out in mid-air, dangling precariously. when his eyes opened again, he leaned forward, clutching the railing. he seemed... almost relaxed.
"what about you, himiko?"
she didn't know how to put her thoughts into words.
"i... i don't know..." she admitted, "ever since i was young, i had this feeling. like i wasn't good for anything."
that wasn't the only reason, there were plenty. but she didn't really feel like talking about it.
kokichi seemed to realise this, so he nodded.
"well, i guess this is goodbye."
"yeah..."
they stood for a moment. the only sound was the wind and their breathing.
kokichi was the first to move. he stepped forward, "bye, world."
time seemed to stop. she wanted to grab him, drag him away from the edge kicking and screaming. she wanted him to be safe.
it was at that moment that she realised why she didn't jump while she had the chance.
she didn't want to jump.
she wanted... she needed help, and this wasn't the solution.
himiko knew she shouldn't make decisions for him, but she couldn't stop her hand from reaching out and grabbing kokichi's arm.
"stay."
he looked surprised, "...what?"
himiko felt her arms envelop him in a hug, "don't go, please."
her head pressed into his chest.
"but. i thought you...?" he started to say, trailing off. suddenly, he laughed, "you're such a hypocrite."
but she felt his arms wrap around her anyways.
they stood there for what felt like hours, holding each other. himiko was sad, but she couldn't bring herself to cry.
the doors slammed open and kaede, tenko, and kaito rushed onto the roof. but himiko didn't let go. neither did kokichi.
they just held eachother.

i haven't been in the best mindset recently, but writing helps. whether it be in my phone's notebook, or a fictional story on wattpad.
thank you all for reading.

FanfictionI'm bored and I decided, why not make a one shot book? I'll do most ships, and if I feel uncomfortable writing them romantically, I'll write them platonically. Anyways, just request something. I don't do smut, I suck at that.
